Now that Thanksgiving is over, many people are planning to unwind and enjoy a movie with family and friends on Prime Video this weekend. With so many new releases and classic films available, there’s something for everyone to watch and plenty of entertainment to choose from.
As a total movie buff, I can tell you Prime Video really does have something for everyone. Whether you’re into hilarious old comedies, swoon-worthy romances, or action-packed thrillers that get your blood pumping, you’ll find it there. Honestly, when the weekend hits, everyone’s searching for a great watch, and these kinds of movies always deliver – there’s something to please any mood!
City Lights (1931)
It’s often said that classic films stand the test of time, and that’s certainly true of Charlie Chaplin’s masterpiece, City Lights. This film perfectly captures everything people love about Chaplin’s famous ‘Tramp’ character. It’s a beautiful and funny love story about a blind woman, but it’s also deeply moving and heartfelt.
Facing possible homelessness, a family’s struggles inspired the Tramp to find a way to help, and the film City Lights beautifully combined humor, heartfelt emotion, and a look at social issues. Above all, City Lights showcases Charlie Chaplin’s incredible talent for making audiences both laugh and feel deeply moved.
I Want You Back (2022)
Good romantic comedies are hard to come by now, but ‘I Want You Back’ really captures the charm of the best ones. Featuring fantastic performances from Charlie Day and Jenny Slate, the movie tells the story of two people who, after breakups, try to sabotage their exes’ new relationships – and it has everything you need for a truly memorable modern rom-com.
Despite not gaining much attention when it first appeared on Prime Video in 2022, I Want You Back is a delightful romantic comedy that deserves to be discovered. Viewers familiar with the sitcoms It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Parks and Recreation will recognize the lead actors, and their chemistry is surprisingly charming.
Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981)
It’s hard to find an action movie more thrilling than the original Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, starring Harrison Ford. It’s considered a nearly flawless film, with exciting action, a memorable score, and a perfect balance of humor.
As a huge Spielberg fan, I still think Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of his most purely entertaining movies. Seriously, that opening scene with the boulder is legendary, and the whole story of stopping the Nazis from finding the Ark is just a blast. If you somehow haven’t seen it yet, you absolutely need to change that this weekend – add it to your watch list now!
