I was so excited when Danny Boyle and Alex Garland brought us back to the world of *28 Years Later* earlier this year! It really took the franchise in a surprising direction – everything I thought I knew about *28 Days Later* was turned on its head, and it feels like a fresh start. Now that it’s on Netflix in the US, it seems like even more people are discovering (and loving!) this thrilling ride.
The new film, *28 Years Later*, quickly became the most popular movie on Netflix after its release on Saturday. As of Monday, itâs at the top of Netflixâs Top 10 Movies list, which is a good sign for the future of the series, with another sequel planned for 2026.
If you enjoyed watching *28 Years Later* on Netflix and are craving another zombie story, youâll be happy to know the streaming service has a few great choices available.
1. Train to Busan (2016)

While it might not reach the level of classics like George A. Romero’s zombie films, *Train to Busan* is definitely the best zombie movie made in the last two decades.
Yeon Sang-ho’s 2016 thriller is thrilling and intense throughout. Like classic zombie films by George Romero, it explores serious themes and delivers a powerful emotional impact, but it also packs a punch with non-stop action and suspense.
The sequel to *Train to Busan*, called *Peninsula*, is currently available on Netflix. While it doesn’t quite live up to the original, which was excellent, itâs still one of the better zombie films you’ll find.
2. The Dead Donât Die (2019)

28 Years Later really surprised everyone with how original it was. Itâs rare to find a zombie movie that feels truly fresh these days, but Jim Jarmuschâs funny take on the undead is another one that stands out.
Released in 2019, *The Dead Donât Die* is a darkly funny movie about a zombie outbreak that unexpectedly hits a small town. The film constantly surprises you, and the characters often do the opposite of what youâd expect.
Featuring a talented ensemble cast – including Adam Driver, Bill Murray, Danny Glover, Tilda Swinton, Tom Waits, Chloe Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Selena Gomez, and Austin Butler – *The Dead Donât Die* is packed with recognizable faces.
3. Army of the Dead (2021)

While there’s a noticeable difference in quality between the top two films and Zack Snyder’s *Army of the Dead*, it’s still a surprisingly good and fun zombie movie – much better than most that come out now.
This movie is about a wild heist that takes place in a zombie-infested Las Vegas. It’s over-the-top and ridiculous, but in a charming way. Strong performances, especially from Ella Purnell, help make it work, and the film throws in some really creative and unexpected ideas for the future of zombie movies.
