3 Big Bang Theory Characters Who Didn’t Appear Enough

Sitcoms with lots of characters can appear fun and lighthearted, but they’re actually quite challenging to write. When a show has a large cast, the writers need to give each character meaningful storylines so they can develop and stay interesting. It becomes even harder when new characters are popular with the audience and deserve more screen time. The show Community experienced this firsthand – even though Ben Chang and Craig Pelton weren’t originally part of the core group, the writers consistently found ways to include them in the main storylines.

Many shows don’t handle supporting characters as well as Community does. On The Big Bang Theory, characters who weren’t part of the main group often faded into the background or were written off the show entirely. Here are three Big Bang Theory characters who didn’t get enough screen time over the show’s 12 seasons.

3) Leslie Winkle

Before Leonard Hofstadter and Penny finally get together, he dates several women, but Leslie Winkle stands out the most. They connect through their shared work and admiration for each other at Caltech. However, throughout The Big Bang Theory, it’s obvious that Leonard and Leslie’s relationship isn’t meant to be long-term, and she faces an ongoing struggle with that.

The show attempted to create a romantic connection between Leslie and Howard Wolowitz, hoping for chemistry like they had before. Sadly, the pairing didn’t last, and Leslie disappeared from the series after their breakup. It’s a pity she didn’t stay, as she was one of the few people who could effectively manage Sheldon Cooper’s quirks.

2) Missy Cooper

Sheldon’s sister, Missy Cooper, first appears in Season 1, Episode 15, “The Porkchop Indeterminacy,” and quickly becomes a favorite of Howard and Raj. Sheldon interferes with their attempts to date her, but she doesn’t reject them, leaving the possibility of a future relationship open. However, Missy doesn’t appear again for ten seasons, making a brief cameo during Sheldon’s wedding in Season 11.

While The Big Bang Theory doesn’t tell us how significant Missy will be in Young Sheldon, the show shouldn’t need another series to recognize how valuable she is. Missy is one of the few characters who truly connects with Penny and offers the group a way to playfully tease Sheldon. It would have been great if she’d stayed in California longer, or at least visited more often.

1) Wyatt

Among Penny’s family on The Big Bang Theory, her dad, Wyatt, appears more often than the others. He’s in five episodes, usually when something important is happening in Penny’s life. But Wyatt isn’t just defined by his relationship to Penny – he’s a well-developed character who genuinely connects with Leonard.

Leonard really shines when he’s around Wyatt, as his father-in-law always brings out the best in him. Considering Leonard often clashes with his own parents, who are quite chaotic, it would have been great to see Wyatt featured more. He had the potential to carry an entire episode, maybe leading the group on a fishing trip or some other outdoor adventure.
