3 Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Plot Points to Give Fans “The Closure They Needed” (& 1 Means Killing a Fan-Favorite)

Having surpassed more than five years since the manga’s conclusion, I find myself eagerly anticipating the conclusion of the Demon Slayer story in its anime adaptation. Rather than rolling out new seasons, Ufotable chose to convert the entire final arc into a three-part film series, promising to adapt both parts of the final arc: the Infinity Castle and the Sunrise Countdown. As the battle against Muzan commenced, the Demon Slayers found themselves entangled within an ancient labyrinth called the Infinity Castle, long a hiding place for Muzan. With the Upper Moons and all demons present, Muzan aims to eliminate the Demon Slayer Corps and seize Nezuko, who now commands the sun’s power.

The battle begins in the initial part of the trilogy, set to debut in the US on September 12th, 2025. Despite some highs and lows in the concluding chapter, there are numerous exciting aspects to anticipate, particularly in the anime version, as Ufotable is renowned for enhancing crucial moments and making them even more powerful than before. Here’s a rundown of the top three highlights from the final arc that will be explored in the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle trilogy.

3) Backstories Add Character Depth Even During Intense Battles

One notable aspect of “Demon Slayer” is its profound character backstories that resonate deeply with viewers. The narrative unfolds in a ruthless world where humans have endured repeated hardships at the hands of these demons. Post transformation, demons tend to lose their human memories and are compelled by their innate desires to kill and consume people. They may become demons either due to external coercion or personal circumstances that leave them with no other choice. This duality in their nature – being equally tragic as ordinary humans – is a recurring theme, and the series deftly delves into the emotional turmoil experienced by both the Corps members and the demons themselves.

Due to the fast-paced nature of the Infinity Castle, numerous character backstories unfold amid intense battles. For instance, we get a glimpse into Akaza’s tragic past, discover aspects of Yoriichi Tsugikuni that were previously unknown through Kokushibo’s tale, and these insights add significant depth to our characters. Although Kokushibo’s fight was only hinted at in the first part, it is promised to be even more enthralling in the sequel. The final battle promises higher stakes than ever before, with moments that will undoubtedly leave you on the edge of your seat.

2) Most Fights Have a Much Deeper Meaning Than We See on the Surface

In the initial part, three significant battles are emphasized: Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado against Akaza, Shinobu Kocho taking on Doma, and Zenitsu up against Kaigaku. The creator meticulously planned these encounters because there are intricate links between the demons and their respective slayers in these confrontations.

As an observer, I find myself witnessing the personal struggles of our characters. Tanjiro is on a mission to avenge the death of Kyojuro Rengoku and confront Akaza. Meanwhile, Shinobu has been biding her time, ready to exact vengeance against the demon who stole her sister Kanao’s life.

Furthermore, Zenitsu’s past intertwines with Kaigaku in a complex manner, adding another layer of intrigue. Lastly, even Muichiro Tokito, who engages Kokushibo during the Infinity Castle Arc, harbors an unexpected bond with this formidable demon.

1) A Bittersweet Epilogue Portraying the Era of Peace

The ending of Demon Slayer is far from joyful. In a single night, most of the Corps perished while battling demons. The final battle was merciless, as they collectively worked to keep Muzan outside until dawn. With over half of the characters meeting their end, many beloved figures failed to live long enough to witness the tranquil era they had sacrificed so much to protect. Each one harbored dreams of a world free from demonic terror.

Following the unfortunate event, the Corps was dissolved, and its survivors embarked on separate journeys in life. The relentless cycle of sorrowful events came to an end when Muzan ceased to exist completely. Some well-known series like “Jujutsu Kaisen” or “Attack on Titan” leave questions unanswered as the sequence of misfortunes persists despite heroic efforts by characters. On the contrary, “Demon Slayer” deviated from this pattern by fast-forwarding us several decades into the future, showing Japan undergoing modernization in a brief epilogue.

In this conclusion, we see the offspring or renewed versions of our primary characters, now enjoying tranquil lives that they had always yearned for. What makes this final chapter especially poignant is that they have no memory of the struggle during the last confrontation with demons. Labeling them as reincarnations implies they are essentially doppelgängers, living out the peaceful lives that the original Demon Slayers had long envisioned. Although they may not remember their past struggles, merely viewing this epilogue offers fans a sense of resolution. It underscores the fact that all those hardships and sacrifices had served a purpose.
