Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen started on January 8th with a two-episode premiere that contained some details you might not have noticed. While these episodes weren’t entirely original – they included content from the recent Jujutsu Kaisen movie – they did feature some new scenes and information.
The changes are mostly noticeable in the new opening and closing themes, which have unique details that take time to appreciate. Beyond that, there are subtler additions that aren’t immediately apparent, but once you recognize them, they enrich the experience and add depth.
3) Tengen’s Voice Actor

The second episode of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 introduced Tengen, a highly anticipated character who plays a vital role in the jujutsu world. Tengen acts as a guardian and observer, using powerful barriers to protect everything. The anime cleverly highlights this by giving Tengen the same voice actor as the series narrator, subtly reinforcing his importance and omnipresence.
Tengen is a powerful sorcerer with an incredible amount of knowledge – seemingly more than anyone else. They instantly recognized everyone who came to them seeking answers, acting almost like an all-knowing storyteller. The fact that the same voice actor plays both Tengen and the anime’s narrator has led many fans to believe Tengen might be the source of the information we’ve been hearing throughout the series.
2) Gojo Is a Bad Teacher (And It’s Once Again Highlighted)

The first episode ended with Yuji and Yuta finishing their fight. Yuji, unable to overcome Yuta, tried using a cursed energy technique he remembered Gojo mentioning, but it turned out Gojo hadn’t actually taught them that move. It’s also been shown that Gojo can perform certain techniques easily, like sensing when someone is nearby, while others find them difficult and often mess up.
It might seem like Gojo isn’t a very good teacher, but that’s because he’s naturally incredibly talented – complex jujutsu techniques come easily to him, like breathing. His unique ability, the Six Eyes, makes it hard for him to simplify these techniques and explain them to others. Despite this, Gojo has guided his students effectively, especially by helping them stay strong and calm under pressure, as demonstrated by Yuji, Yuta, and Megumi.
1) References to Historical Arts in the Opening

Since many fans had already watched these episodes in cinemas, a big part of the excitement around seeing them again was due to the new opening and closing songs. The ending song doesn’t have much that stands out, but the opening song includes images inspired by classic artwork.
The opening theme features at least eight pieces of art, showcasing historical styles from around the world. Paying attention to the details of these artworks reveals just how carefully crafted and richly layered this season of Jujutsu Kaisen is.
