Lots of Pokémon players have great memories of the original games, starting with Pokémon Red and Blue. While newer games have a lot going for them, many people feel nostalgic for the simpler, pixelated graphics of the past. Pokémon has moved to 3D and online play is much more complex now, but a lot of fans believe the older games were just better overall. I personally enjoyed Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but even I miss some features from the earlier games.
The original Pokémon games felt much more creative and willing to try new things than the ones we’ve seen recently. They weren’t afraid to introduce unusual or complex gameplay mechanics, and those features often made the games so enjoyable. Unfortunately, some of the best parts of those early games have been lost over time. If Pokémon wants to make the next generation – Generation 10 – truly special, they should definitely bring back these three features from the older games.
3) Poffin Making

I really enjoy cooking features in video games, and I especially like when they’re detailed and complex. While the Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games had PokeBlocks, I think Poffins in later games were a significant improvement. The process of making Poffins was simple, yet surprisingly engaging as a mini-game, and they actually served a useful function within the game.
We’ve had cooking in Pokémon games for a while now, but it hasn’t been as enjoyable as it used to be. While dishes like curry and sandwiches are nice, I really miss how simple and fun the Poffin-making mini-game was. The donut-making in the Legends: Z-A DLC looks promising, and I’m hoping it captures some of that same feeling. Ultimately, I’d love to see Poffins return in a future Pokémon game – maybe Generation 10 – and it would be even better if another old mini-game came back with it.
2) Pokemon Contests

I really enjoyed Pokemon Contests – they were a great way to showcase your Pokemon without actually fighting! These contests, featured in Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire and Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, involved a unique strategy. Instead of focusing on battle stats, you had to develop different qualities in your Pokemon to succeed. I wish they would bring them back.
While battling is central to Pokémon games, older titles offered a variety of fun side activities that haven’t been fully replicated in recent years. With the improved technology of newer games, it’s a great time to bring back Pokémon Contests in the tenth generation. After experiencing so many battles in Legends: Z-A, I’m eager to prepare my Pokémon for a different type of competition in Gen 10.
1) Secret Bases

Out of all the features in these games, I really miss secret bases. First introduced in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, they let you create and personalize your own little hideaway within the game world. You’d unlock different spots to build, and then fill them with cool items. It was fun both finding the best locations and decorating your base to make it your own.
The idea of customizable player homes appeared in earlier Pokémon games like Diamond and Pearl with secret bases, and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire expanded on that with Super Secret Bases. However, this feature hasn’t been included in recent main series games. Considering how popular decorating and home design games are now, it seems strange that Pokémon hasn’t given players a personal space to customize. Games like Pokémon Friends and Pokopia don’t really offer the same experience.
