The Silent Hill franchise is thriving in 2025, with the remake of Silent Hill 2 and the new game Silent Hill f. With remakes of the original Silent Hill and Silent Hill: Townfall also on the way, it’s a fantastic time to be a fan. It’s been nearly ten years since fans had new Silent Hill games to enjoy, and many other developers tried to create similar psychological horror experiences in the meantime. Here are three excellent games to play if you’re craving that Silent Hill feeling. I’m leaving out games that heavily imitate the canceled demo P.T., but if that’s what you’re looking for, you might enjoy Visage, Luto, and Infliction.
Here are three games that fans of Silent Hill will love.
3) Tormented Souls

Released in 2021, Tormented Souls is a survival horror game developed by Dual Effect. It’s designed to feel like the classic games of the genre, such as Resident Evil and Silent Hill. Players can expect to explore a richly detailed environment, solve challenging puzzles, and battle frightening creatures using whatever resources they can find.
Tormented Souls feels more like the original Resident Evil in some ways, with its fixed camera angles and optional tank controls. However, it also draws heavily from Silent Hill, particularly in how its monsters are designed. The game’s puzzles are genuinely challenging, a hallmark of Silent Hill, while Resident Evil puzzles are more famous for being memorable than difficult.
I was super hyped when Tormented Souls 2 dropped on October 23rd, 2025! If you loved the first game, you’ll be glad to know there’s a whole new nightmare to jump into. This time around, instead of a scary hospital, you’re stuck in a crumbling villa trying to rescue my sister from a dangerous cult. It’s seriously creepy!
2) Alan Wake 2

The original Alan Wake leans more into action and adventure than the second game. If you’re hoping for an experience similar to Silent Hill, you can probably jump straight to Alan Wake 2. It’s a truly exceptional game, and the developers really utilized their large budget to create something special.
Similar to the Silent Hill games, Alan Wake 2 explores two distinct realities. The game takes Alan and the new main character, Saga, on a captivating and unforgettable journey – truly one of the most gripping stories ever told in a video game. Once you begin, you’ll be compelled to discover how it ends, and you won’t be disappointed with the resolution.
The atmosphere of Alan Wake 2 is strikingly similar to the classic Silent Hill games – so much so that one of its downloadable stories feels like a humorous, unexpected ending you’d find in a Silent Hill game. Instead of being controlled by dogs, this story, called The Number One Fan, lets you play as Alan Wake’s biggest admirer as she battles crazed fans, a werewolf, and even a werewolf on a bicycle. It’s a brilliant addition.
1) Detention

The Silent Hill series is a standout example of psychological horror in video games. While it features scary monsters and terrifying settings, the true horror comes from the deeper, unsettling themes and masterful storytelling. The developers expertly use every element to create a genuinely disturbing experience for the player.
Though the Silent Hill series was quiet in the 2010s, Detention felt like a true successor. It’s a horror game that relies on a deeply unsettling atmosphere, rather than cheap jump scares, to create genuine fear. This 2D side-scroller features a well-paced story that knows when to build tension and slowly reveal the mysteries behind its 1960s Taiwan setting, leaving a lasting, chilling impression.
Red Candle Games, the creators of Detention, released Devotion, a horror game focusing on religious themes. The game faced controversy and was removed from Steam after players discovered an in-game reference to Xi Jinping. However, you can still buy Devotion directly from the developer if you’re interested in experiencing their take on the atmospheric horror style of P.T.
