At the moment, it’s undecided which enemy Godzilla and Kong will battle in the upcoming Monsterverse film, “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.” Possible contenders include SpaceGodzilla, Gigan, or an original character from the Monsterverse like Skar King and Shimo. It’s worth noting that the following three creatures won’t feature in this movie, but they could appear in future Monsterverse films or seasons of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.”
The monsters mentioned might make excellent additions to the series as well, similar to the Toho kaiju yet to be adapted, such as Anguirus, Baragon, Battra, Biollante, Destoroyah, Ebirah, Hedorah, Megaguirus, Megalon, or Varan. Characters like King Ghidorah, Rodan, Mothra, and Mechagodzilla have already been adapted in the American version, so they’re likely candidates for upcoming battles.
Even though the Monsterverse potentially produces numerous films and series that could adapt all these colossal creatures in an American style, there remains a wealth of additional kaiju to discover. The ensuing three monsters serve as evidence of this abundance.
3) Megalodon
It’s effective to have the titular monster, like King Kong or some Godzilla movies, initially engage with a smaller, less menacing opponent during either the first or second phase of the story. The Megalodon could serve as an excellent adversary for such an initial battle.
While it’s obvious that Godzilla would prevail given he’s confronting merely a large shark. However, let’s not underestimate The Meg, a swift-swimming monster with an abundance of teeth. It might manage to inflict some damage on Godzilla before ultimately meeting its demise at the hands of the mighty Godzilla.
2) Kraken
Godzilla could potentially face off against another aquatic monster, the Kraken, which is famously depicted in the films “Clash of the Titans” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”. Incorporating this creature into a battle scenario wouldn’t be overly difficult.
Over time, representations of the Kraken in various media have been diverse, as there’s no definitive description of its appearance. Essentially, if it sports sharp teeth and long, writhing tentacles capable of destroying ships, that’s pretty much spot-on. Moreover, it’s not a commercially owned character but rather originates from Norse folklore dating back to the 18th century. In essence, the Kraken is a legendary sea monster open for interpretation.
1) Gamera
Following the phenomenal success of the movie Gojira, film studios worldwide rushed to produce monster-themed films, often referred to as kaiju. Among these were South Korea’s Yongary, Monster from the Deep, England’s Gorgo, North Korea’s Pulgasari, but none matched Japan’s prowess, not only due to the renowned Godzilla franchise, but also because Toho transformed a single success into an ongoing winning streak with films like Rodan and Mothra. Competing with Toho was Daiei Film’s creation, Gamera, The Giant Monster, which sparked another long-lasting franchise. For years, fans of kaiju have been hoping to see these two iconic characters face off, but despite both experiencing a revival during the Heisei era (1980s for Godzilla and 1990s for Gamera), they never did.
Presently, we have the Monsterverse, which isn’t an entirely unprecedented or impractical concept. Although Gamera’s Showa era films straddle a peculiar border between child-friendly themes and violent monster brawls, he still enjoys a degree of popularity. As Toho did in 1998 when they licensed Godzilla for the Monsterverse movies, they had to give out the rights this time around. Currently, the rights to Gamera are owned by Kadokawa Corporation, who acquired them from Daiei Film. However, there’s a Toho link – Toho distributed the ’90s Gamera Heisei era films, so it’s not implausible for Kadokawa and Toho to collaborate again, given that Toho has now recognized that Americans can effectively exploit Godzilla’s atomic breath. The success of movies like Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire may hint that the Monsterverse could potentially handle Gamera just as well.
