3 Major Sonic the Hedgehog Characters That Still Need a Movie Appearance

As a big fan of Sonic the Hedgehog, I was recently looking through the list of supporting characters, and wow – it’s surprisingly extensive! Of course, everyone remembers Tails and Knuckles. But then you start thinking about characters like Jet the Hawk, Mephiles the Dark, Sally Acorn, or even Charmy Bee. Seriously, the number of unique characters who’ve appeared alongside Sonic in games and other media is endless. That’s exciting because it gives the filmmakers so many options when it comes to introducing major new supporting characters in future Sonic movies.

Looking back at the series’ history, three Sonic the Hedgehog characters stand out as great choices to join Sonic and his friends in future movies, picking up after Sonic the Hedgehog 3. While they aren’t currently as well-known, these three would be fantastic additions to Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and any movies that come after.

3) Rouge the Bat

With Shadow now part of the Sonic movie world, it won’t be long before his frequent partner, Rouge the Bat, joins the series. As the films become more accepting of the more unusual elements from Sonic’s history-and even use content from later games like Sonic Adventure 2-Rouge would fit right in. Even better, if the filmmakers capture her playful and mischievous personality from the games and other adaptations, she’d add a fun, fresh dynamic to the CG Sonic movie cast.

A mysterious and alluring woman with questionable ethics would stand out against the honest heroes like Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, and the troubled, sad characters like Shadow. Rouge’s confidence and unapologetic personality have always been a key part of her appeal. Staying true to that personality would bring something new and exciting to the Sonic franchise. When it comes to casting her in a live-action movie, Sabrina Carpenter would be an ideal choice to capture Rouge’s seductive, yet cheerful and playful nature. With her playing live-action Rouge, viewers would happily follow the character through any difficulties she faces.

20 Vector the Crocodile

Up until now, the Sonic films have mainly featured fluffy animals like hedgehogs and foxes. However, what about reptiles and other scaled creatures? They’re definitely part of the classic Sonic universe and deserve a chance to be showcased in movies. That’s why Vector the Crocodile would be a great addition. Even if his friends from the Chaotix Detective Agency, Espio the Chameleon and Charmy, don’t appear with him, Vector’s big personality would be a fantastic asset to the Sonic film series. His wide mouth and scaly skin would immediately make him look very different from the animals we’ve already seen in the movies.

Furthermore, Vector’s potential as a detective could create exciting new story avenues for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and future games. If a Sonic game wants to shift away from large-scale action and focus on a mystery, Vector’s detective abilities would be incredibly useful, offering a fresh narrative direction for the series. Also, it would be wonderfully strange and fun to hear Vector’s humorous voice coming from cinema speakers. Therefore, Sonic producers, let movie fans enjoy Vector in a film!

1) Silver the Hedgehog

For many Sonic fans, Silver the Hedgehog is often the subject of jokes. Ever since he first appeared in the poorly received Sonic the Hedgehog in 2006, he’s become an easy target for criticism related to that game. He hasn’t played a major role in Sonic games or other media since then, which actually makes him a good fit for the Sonic movies. The writers don’t need to worry much about meeting fans’ expectations for Silver. He’s mostly a fresh start, and he doesn’t have a strong history to live up to. It’s hard to imagine giving him a worse portrayal than what happened in Sonic 06.

What’s even more exciting is the sheer potential Silver possesses, giving the creators of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and other games a fantastic opportunity to do something truly creative with the character. Instead of simply repeating his past appearances, they can reimagine Silver, making him more mysterious and adaptable for whatever future Sonic movies require. He’s a character who could be successfully reintroduced on the big screen. By acknowledging and building upon Silver’s previously mixed reception, a Sonic sequel could achieve something many thought impossible: make Silver the Hedgehog a popular and well-loved character.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is now streaming on Paramount+ and Prime Video.
