Losing the paint remover isn’t the issue – it’s using it on the wrong object first. If you do, you won’t have any left to remove a paint stain on the wall, which reveals a hidden door. This door leads to an area containing a code needed to access the secret lab, meaning you’ll be stuck and unable to progress in the story without it.
