3 Nintendo Franchises That Deserve a Modern Revival (But 1 Should Stay Buried)

As a Nintendo fan, I was so excited to hear that some of my favorite series are returning! They’re making a new *Tomodachi Life*, which is awesome for anyone who loves cozy games, and another *Hyrule Warriors* is on the way – yes! But it got me thinking… Nintendo has so many other classic franchises that haven’t seen the light of day in ages. Seriously, it’s been way too long for some of them, and I’m hoping they’ll consider bringing those back too!

Recently, we’ve seen a lot of older games updated or re-released, but nothing compares to a completely new game in a series people already love. Nintendo has several well-known franchises that haven’t had new installments in a long time, and their fans are eager for a return. As Nintendo enters a new generation with the Switch 2, it’s time to bring these classic series back with modern updates.

3. Yes, We Have a New Mario Kart, But Where’s Our Modern F-Zero?

As a huge fan, it feels like forever since we’ve gotten a proper new *F-Zero* game – the last one was *F-Zero: Climax* back in 2004! We did get *F-Zero 99* last year, which was fun as a free game with Nintendo Switch Online, but honestly, it felt more like a remix of the older games than a brand-new experience. It brought back a lot of the classic cars and tracks, and turned everything into a battle royale, but didn’t really push the series forward. Still, the fact that *F-Zero 99* was so well-received by both critics and fans proves there’s still a massive appetite for this franchise. Nintendo, please give us a full, modern *F-Zero* game – we need it!

While *F-Zero* originally came out before *Mario Kart*, both series have been popular for years. *F-Zero* stands out with its unique futuristic look and incredibly fast, difficult racing, offering a different experience than *Mario Kart*. Even though the games are set in the distant future, the 2500s, there’s still room for creative new ideas. *F-Zero 99* was a good step, but fans are now hoping for a completely updated and reimagined *F-Zero* game.

2. Star Fox Switch 2 Rumors Need to Be True

It’s been far too long since we’ve seen a new game in the *Star Fox* series. First appearing in 1993, the franchise hasn’t had a truly original entry since 2016’s *Star Fox Zero*, which was largely a remake of the classic *Star Fox 64*. While the previously cancelled *Star Fox 2* was eventually released in 2017, it was an older game, not a new one. As a result, fans haven’t experienced a brand new *Star Fox* adventure in almost a decade, and the Nintendo Switch still hasn’t received one.

For a long time, fans have speculated about a new Star Fox game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. Similar to the anticipated new Animal Crossing, Nintendo hasn’t officially announced anything. Despite this, there’s a strong desire among players to see a refreshed take on the classic Star Fox series. It’s unclear why the original Switch never received a new installment, but many hope Nintendo will revisit the franchise with the Switch 2 and bring back the magic of the original games.

1. I’m Once Again Asking for a New Nintendogs

With the growing trend of relaxing “cozy games,” it’s surprising Nintendo hasn’t brought back *Nintendogs*. These games were hugely popular on the Nintendo DS, and many fans, including me, have been hoping for a modern update. While the original *Nintendogs* used features that didn’t quite fit the Switch, the upcoming Switch 2 could be the perfect platform to expand on the fun of caring for virtual pets.

If a game like *Nintendogs* were created today, it would probably be a mobile app. That’s exactly why we need a new version for a dedicated console! We’re hoping for a well-made pet simulation game with engaging interactions, one that doesn’t rely on phones or in-app purchases. Nintendo, please make it happen – many of us, including cozy gamers and even Paris Hilton, are eager to play!

But Urban Champion Doesn’t Need a Comeback

Nintendo has created many successful games, but not all of them became huge hits. One example is *Urban Champion*, a fighting game released in 1984 for the NES. While it was recently made available again on the Nintendo Switch through the Arcade Archives series, it likely won’t become popular with modern gamers.

Urban Champion is a very straightforward arcade game, even for the beat ’em up genre. As one of the earliest fighting games on the NES, it feels limited – players only have two moves to work with, and there are no special attacks or combo moves. The game wasn’t popular when it was first released, and its recent re-release on Nintendo Switch hasn’t changed that. Nintendo has created many better fighting games, most notably the Super Smash Bros. series.
