The One Piece anime has been off the air since Fall 2025, which is a longer break than usual for the series. But in just under two weeks, One Piece will be back with a new story arc and is expected to be a major anime release this Spring 2026. Because it’s been a while since new episodes aired, some fans might need a refresher on the details.
Before the new season of One Piece arrives, there are a few important things to keep in mind. The most crucial are the changes to the show’s format, a recap of what’s happened so far, and a look ahead at what’s coming next.
3) One Piece‘s New Seasonal Format

Before taking a break after finishing its last story arc, the One Piece anime announced a big change: it’s switching from releasing new episodes every week to releasing them in seasons. This means instead of getting episodes continuously for years, fans can expect shorter blocks of episodes that air a few months at a time.
The anime is planned to release 26 episodes each year, split into two parts. Each part, called a ‘cour,’ will air for about three months. This means viewers can expect new episodes every week in the spring, a short break, and then more episodes in the fall.
2) What Happened Previously?

The recent Egghead arc of One Piece was a significant part of the series’ final storyline, and it delivered on that promise by unveiling crucial details about what’s to come. The arc revealed major secrets, like the possibility of the world flooding and confirmed the identity of Joyboy as the original pirate. These revelations strongly suggest where the story of One Piece began and how it will ultimately end.
Meanwhile, events highlighted the growing significance of Sun God Nika and Luffy’s part in the upcoming war. The end of the arc hinted at a massive battle to come, with giants joining forces with the Straw Hats, the Five Elders getting involved, and new clues about Imu emerging. The arc finished with the crew fleeing the destruction of Egghead Island and heading towards Elbaph with the giants, signaling the start of a new stage as the story nears its conclusion.
1) One Piece Heads Towards the End

The Egghead arc established the groundwork for the ending of One Piece, but the upcoming Elbaph arc will significantly speed up the story’s progress toward its conclusion. Elbaph has been a highly anticipated arc for over 25 years, and it’s now even more important because of its connection to the Sun God Nika. This connection is expected to reveal key information and provide a clearer understanding of where the story is headed.
The manga is currently in a pivotal part of the story, the Elbaph arc, and heading towards its ending, having already revealed some huge plot twists. Now, as the One Piece anime begins its adaptation of the Elbaph arc, it will accelerate towards the finale by revealing important prophecies, solving mysteries that have lingered for years, and preparing for the ultimate showdown. Fans should get ready for the anime’s return, as the story is about to move forward quickly towards its conclusion.
