Hypixel Studios launched Hytale on January 13, 2026, and it’s quickly become a hit. This is largely thanks to the loyal fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game since its development started in 2015, though it’s also attracting new players. You can currently buy Hytale on the official website, with three different versions available: Standard for $19.99, Supporter for $34.99, and Cursbreaker (Founder’s Edition) for $69.99. All versions let you play the game, but the more expensive options include extra in-game content. If you’re new to Hytale and considering a purchase, here are a few things to keep in mind.
1) It’s an Incomplete Game

It’s important to understand that Hytale isn’t a finished game yet. Even though you can buy it now, you’re essentially getting an early version that’s still being developed. The creators have been very clear about this, and it’s good they are, as it’s not a complete experience. However, the game is playable! When it launched, it offered a lot to do, with only minor visual issues. Currently, you can play in Exploration or Creative mode, but Adventure mode isn’t available yet. Exploration is like a preview of what’s to come, and many players have found it incredibly engaging. You’ll occasionally see areas marked as “work in progress,” which is a positive sign of ongoing development. By purchasing the game through Early Access, players are directly funding its continued improvement.
2) It’s Not Minecraft 2.0

When you first start playing Hytale, you’ll immediately notice its similarities to Minecraft. That’s because Hytale originated from the Hypixel server within Minecraft and expanded from there. However, it’s not simply Minecraft 2.0; it’s more of a fresh take on the original concept. While the game shares a similar visual style with Minecraft, it offers a significantly larger amount of content, incorporates RPG elements, and features many other improvements that set it apart. Although some of the more advanced features are still in development, the current version (and the first update) is already quite impressive. Think of Hytale as what Minecraft could become if modders completely rebuilt it from the ground up – and that’s actually how Hytale was created.
3) Modding Is Central to Hytale

Hytale started as a modding project, and the developers are committed to keeping that spirit alive. Modding is central to the game’s design, and Technical Director Kevin Carstens recently explained how it will evolve as Hytale gets closer to its official release. While modding options were limited during the Early Access phase, it remains a key part of the experience. The developers envision a future for Hytale similar to Minecraft, where a thriving modding community will continually enhance the game for years to come.
