3 Ways Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Fumbles Its Ending

After a six-month run of 25 chapters, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the follow-up to Gege Akutami’s popular Jujutsu Kaisen, has concluded. Set nearly 70 years after the events of the original series, the sequel quickly gained attention. Many fans were hoping it would expand on the story and provide a more satisfying conclusion, especially given the mixed reactions to the original ending.

The second part of the story has now finished, and while its ending is arguably stronger than the first one, it still has some problems. Like before, the series is too short, making the conclusion feel hurried. There are also a few specific areas where the ending doesn’t quite succeed.

3) The Main Fight Doesn’t Conclude

Given that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is an action-packed manga aimed at young men, fans anticipated a large battle at the end. While the series did feature a major fight between Dabura and Mahoraga, it never actually finished it. The fight was brief, lasting only a few chapters, which wasn’t surprising given the series’ length. The real issue is that the battle was left unresolved.

The battle between Dabura and Mahoraga was becoming incredibly exciting – Dabura was demonstrating powerful new magic, and Mahoraga was constantly learning and evolving to counter it. However, the series unexpectedly ended the fight with Dabura simply giving up and leaving. While this provides closure for Dabura’s story, the next installment really should have finished the fight and revealed a clear winner instead of leaving the outcome uncertain.

2) Coexistence Is Magically Accepted

The story of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo starts with the Simurians wanting to share Earth with humans. Understandably, this big change was hard for both groups to accept, leading to a major battle between Dabura and Mahoraga. The series then quickly concludes by stating that after Cursed Energy disappears, the Simurians and humans decide to live together peacefully.

The ending feels unsatisfying because it doesn’t quite fit the established world. Simply getting rid of Cursed Energy wouldn’t automatically create peace; we’d expect conflict to continue, whether from sorcerers, humans, or even disagreements among humans about coexistence. Yet, the story concludes with everyone universally accepting coexistence, leaving no room for conflict or tension, which weakens the overall impact.

1) Definitive Conclusion Ends the Franchise

Many fans feel that the ending of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is more satisfying than the original Jujutsu Kaisen’s because it provides a clearer resolution. The sequel essentially ends the world of jujutsu sorcery by eliminating most cursed energy, leading to the inevitable decline of the Jujutsu Society. However, this very strength – the definitive conclusion – also creates a significant weakness in the story’s ending.

The story has reached a complete and final ending, effectively shutting down the entire Jujutsu Kaisen franchise with no possibility of continuation. Given how unique and compelling the concepts of Cursed Energy and jujutsu were, many fans would have enjoyed seeing more. However, the author has made it clear that this is a definitive conclusion, preventing future installments. Any attempt to revive the series could end up like Dragon Ball GT, which is often considered an unwanted sequel and isn’t part of the main story.
