3 Years On, Stranger Things’ Return Officially Almost Doubles Netflix Audience

While Netflix measured Season 4’s viewership differently – reporting total hours watched instead of individual views – we can estimate that Season 4 had around 31.6 million views. This means Season 5 nearly doubled the show’s audience compared to its previous season.

While not a perfect match, the release schedules share some similarities. Season 4, Volume 1 of Stranger Things came out on a Friday, May 22nd, but Volume 1 of Season 5 was released on a Thursday, giving it an extra day to gain traction. Also, the first part of Season 4 had seven episodes, compared to just four in Season 5’s initial release. It’s evident that Stranger Things has become increasingly popular, and viewers were particularly eager to see the start of the final season.

Stranger Things Is Ending on a High Note for Netflix

This news follows recent data showing that Stranger Things has generated over $1 billion in revenue for Netflix since 2020, even before the release of its fifth season. While no other show on Netflix currently matches Stranger Things‘ success, this is becoming a long-term concern.
