364,333 Americans At Risk As Data Giant Discovers Breach – Social Security Numbers, Names and Other Sensitive Info Stolen

Once again, the mighty guardians of our sensitive data have failed us! This time, a breach has left 364,333 unsuspecting souls exposed, as the cyber villains strike where we least expect it – in the hands of the data brokers who supposedly keep our secrets safe.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions (LNRS), a big name in the world of personal information trading, has just confessed that their data was pillaged by an unknown third party. And guess when it happened? Christmas Day 2024 – just when we were all busy pretending to be nice and not sending passive-aggressive texts to our relatives. A perfect moment for this uninvited guest to sneak in and steal the personal info of over 364,000 people.

“We learned that on December 25, 2024, an unauthorized third party acquired certain LNRS data from a third-party platform used for software development. The issue did not affect LNRS’s own networks or systems…” Oh, but don’t worry, folks, the breach only affected the data stored in a third-party platform – you know, that trusty, super-safe, totally unrelated system that wasn’t even part of their operations. How reassuring!

“The types of impacted personal information varied by affected individual, and could have included name, contact information (such as phone number, postal or email address), Social Security number, driver’s license number or date of birth. No financial or credit card information was affected.” Phew! At least they didn’t get your credit card info, because that would’ve been too much of a hassle for these professionals. Let’s keep our fingers crossed, right?

But fear not, dear citizens, LNRS is on the case! They immediately sent out letters (like, way after the fact) to those affected, offering a two-year subscription to their “free” identity monitoring service – which, you know, should be standard in this day and age, but hey, at least they’re trying.

And don’t worry, the authorities have been notified! They’re investigating this grand theft, while LNRS promises to tighten their security and bring in the “leading external cybersecurity experts.” Because what’s better than calling in the experts when the horse has already bolted?

LNRS also reassures everyone that there’s no evidence the stolen data has been misused. Yet. But just in case, they’ve advised their victims to keep an eye on their financial accounts, like that’s going to make everything magically better.
