4 Classic Godzilla Movies You Can Stream For Free

As a huge Godzilla fan, I was excited to see Tubi has four movies from the massive franchise available to stream for free! It’s amazing how many Godzilla films there are – 38 in total! He’s starred in so many monster movies over the years, and different studios have taken a crack at it. But honestly, while Hollywood has made its share, the vast majority of Godzilla’s films actually come from the original Japanese studio that created him – they really are the heart of the whole kaiju world.

From 1954 to 2023, Toho made 33 live-action Godzilla movies, and they plan to release another one in 2026. These films are usually grouped into four eras – known as the Showa, Heisei, Millennium, and Reiwa series – based on when they were made.

The series includes 15 films overall, with the original Showa series having the most. It’s arguably the most important part of the franchise, as it not only started the story but also introduced most of Godzilla’s famous enemies and allies, and established the core elements of the entire mythology.

Tubi has a great selection of kaiju films, including four movies from a key period in the most enduring movie series ever made.

4. Invasion Of Astro Monster

Released in 1965, Invasion of Astro Monster continues the story from Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster, which first featured the characters Rodan and King Ghidorah. The 1964 film famously showed Godzilla teaming up with Rodan and Mothra for the very first time to fight off King Ghidorah.

Following their previous win, Invasion of Astro Monster focuses on setting up another battle. A race of aliens called the Xiliens ask the humans to send Godzilla and Rodan to their world. They believe these monsters are the only ones who can stop King Ghidorah, as Godzilla and Rodan defeated him once before.

Following the groundwork laid by films like Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster and Invasion of Astro Monster, this movie really showcases Godzilla and Rodan teaming up. It highlights their unique fighting abilities, creating fun and exciting team attacks against Ghidorah, both on Earth and on the alien planet, Planet X.

Even after seventy years of Godzilla movies, Invasion of Astro Monster is the only one that takes the action into outer space.

3. Ebirah, Horror Of The Deep

Released in 1966, Ebirah, Horror of the Deep is about a group of people stranded on an island controlled by a dangerous organization called the Red Bamboo. The Red Bamboo uses a giant lobster monster, known as Ebirah, to maintain its power over the island and its inhabitants.

This leads Godzilla to become the team’s best chance at stopping the Red Bamboo organization. Their plan to enlist Godzilla’s help, allowing them to escape the island, sets the stage for thrilling naval battles featuring Godzilla versus Ebirah, and also introduces Mothra into the mix.

While Ebirah, Horror of the Deep wasn’t a big-budget production for Toho, it still delivers enjoyable monster action, making it a fun addition to the Godzilla and Mothra series.

2. All Monsters Attack

All Monsters Attack is a really unique Godzilla film for several reasons. The biggest one is that all the monster battles happen inside a boy’s dreams! The movie centers around a young boy who uses his imagination to escape troubles at school, picturing himself on Monster Island having an adventure with Godzilla’s son, Minilla, who can actually talk.

What makes All Monsters Attack stand out is that many scenes featuring the boy, Manilla, and Godzilla are actually clips from previous movies. Throughout the film, the main character watches Godzilla battle monsters like Kamacuras, the Giant Condor, Ebirah, and Kumonga, but these fights were all shown in earlier installments.

Interestingly, All Monsters Attack features a completely original villain, meaning all of his scenes were filmed specifically for this movie. The final monster Godzilla battles is named Gabara – a green, two-legged creature that embodies the bully causing problems for a young boy in the film’s story.

1. Terror Of Mechagodzilla

Released in 1975, Terror of Mechagodzilla concludes the original Godzilla series. It’s a sequel to Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, where Godzilla teamed up with King Caesar to defeat a robotic version of himself built by aliens. This new film features a scientist who attempts to revive Mechagodzilla and once again pit it against Godzilla.

Similar to the previous movie, Terror of Mechagodzilla brings together multiple monsters for an epic battle. However, this time, the odds are against Godzilla. Instead of teaming up with another monster to fight Mechagodzilla, Mechagodzilla gets help from Titanosaurus, leaving Godzilla to face two powerful foes.

Titanosaurus is a new monster in the film, living in the water and possessing a distinctive roar and energy beam. The villains control Titanosaurus’s mind, turning it into a weapon to help Mechagodzilla fight Godzilla. This creates a thrilling climax where Godzilla must battle two formidable enemies.
