As announced at last year’s Comic Con, the DC K.O.: Knightfight series has delivered some unexpected storylines for the Robins. While many expected Batman to be central to the DC K.O. series, the first issue shocked fans by having the Joker defeat Batman and take his place in the tournament. Though disappointing for those who had made predictions, creators decided Batman shouldn’t be excluded from such a significant event in the DC Universe.
In DC K.O.: Knightfight, Batman unexpectedly returns to the fight after being defeated, saved by his powerful Apokoliptian armor. However, the Heart of Apokolips, a key artifact in the DC K.O. series, doesn’t like that Batman bypassed the rules and forces him to face a series of difficult trials. Each issue throws Bruce Wayne into a different simulated future where Batman is either deceased, insane, or has retired, leaving a Robin to take on the mantle of the Dark Knight. As the next four issues reveal, these potential futures are far more grim than they appear.
4. Dick Grayson Uses a Robin Army

In one alternate timeline, Dick Grayson became Batman after Bruce Wayne went mad following exposure to a Lazarus Pit, ultimately leading to the deaths of several Robins. As Batman, Dick formed “Robin, Inc.” – a network of Robins stationed in cities around the globe – inspired by Bruce’s own methods. However, these Robins are exceptionally violent, and Dick himself has become a hardened, distant figure. He’s lost his former cheerful personality and is now willing to do whatever it takes – even build an army – to protect the world.
3. Jason Todd is Trapped in a Poisoned Gotham Alone

Jason’s life has been filled with hardship, and the simulated reality created by the Heart of Apokolips reflects that difficult past. In this version of events, the Joker released a gas that permanently poisoned Gotham City. A red dome now surrounds the city, containing the toxic fumes, but Jason Todd, as Red Hood, remained behind to protect what’s left. He now acts as Gotham’s only protector, confronting anyone who tries to enter. This world highlights Jason’s deep-seated loneliness, showing just how bleak things become when he has no support system.
2. Tim Drake is Tormented by Bruce’s Murder

Tim Drake appears to be living a relatively stable life in his version of Gotham. He’s still Batman, has allies and family, and there are no open cases plaguing the city. However, Tim is secretly struggling. Despite being known as the World’s Greatest Detective, he’s deeply troubled by his inability to solve one case: the murder of Bruce Wayne, who was found dead in the Batcave with only a missing utility belt as a clue. While it’s not the bleakest future imaginable, Tim is battling intense feelings of inadequacy and failure as he feels he let down his mentor.
1. Damian Wayne Quit Crime Fighting to Raise a Child

This isn’t a grim or hopeless future; it’s one where Damian Wayne successfully took over as Batman after Bruce Wayne retired. He even managed to wipe out crime in Gotham, allowing him to start a family and have a grandson named Alfred. However, this seemingly perfect world hides a dark truth: Bruce must leave it, effectively ending the reality his son and grandson inhabit. The Heart, a powerful entity, discovered that the best way to defeat Batman wasn’t through force, but by targeting what he loves most.
