In the reimagined DC Universe, Alan Ritchson, widely acclaimed for his portrayal in shows like “Reacher,” “Blue Mountain State,” “Blood Drive,” among others, might be an excellent fit not just for Batman but also for various other renowned DC characters due to his extensive ties with the DC universe. Despite his recent fame, Ritchson has a rich history with DC, having previously played significant roles in “Smallville,” “Titans,” “Supergirl,” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” With James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new live-action franchise on the horizon, there’s a strong possibility that Alan Ritchson could rekindle his career within the DC universe.
In simpler terms, it was confirmed in January 2023 that James Gunn is working on a new movie called “The Brave and the Bold,” which features a fresh take on Batman within the DC Universe. While preparations for this project are ongoing, no official actor has been chosen to play Batman yet, although we saw a shadowy glimpse of him in an earlier film titled “Creature Commandos.” Fans have suggested Alan Ritchson as a strong contender due to his impressive physique and acting skills. However, there are also other DC Comics characters for which Ritchson would be ideal.
4) Oliver Queen’s Green Arrow
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I must say that Alan Ritchson’s portrayal of the title character in Amazon Prime Video’s Reacher has shown he’s got what it takes to tackle a role as intense as Green Arrow. While Stephen Amell is renowned for his exceptional work as Oliver Queen on The CW’s Arrow series, I firmly believe that Ritchson could be an outstanding choice for the character within the genuine DC Universe.
First making his appearance in 1941’s More Fun Comics #73, Green Arrow is a wealthy businessman who moonlights as a vigilante, using his exceptional archery prowess to combat crime in Star City by night.
The character portrayal of Green Arrow by Amell grew stale during the eight-season span of “Arrow,” but Ritchson might infuse fresh qualities and potentially include him in the Justice League. Ritchson’s robust physique and expertise in archery make it apparent that he could convincingly portray the hero’s abilities. The Emerald Archer was referenced in “Peacemaker” season 1, sparking speculation about whether Green Arrow remains canon in the revamped DCU. Although James Gunn has hinted that he is unsure, it would be exciting to see Ritchson embody this legendary character.
3) Nate Adam’s Captain Atom
Standing at 6 feet 3 inches tall with a commanding physique, Alan Ritchson could make a fitting portrayal for a highly potent DC character like Captain Atom (Nate Adam). First introduced in the 1987’s “Captain Atom (Vol. 3) #1” of DC Comics, Nathaniel Adam possesses extraordinary energy-controlling abilities linked to nuclear fission and atomic power. Being a part of multiple Justice League teams throughout the years, this role would place Ritchson at the heart of the DC Universe, while offering James Gunn the chance to excel in his signature talent: turning relatively unknown superheroes into popular figures.
2) Alan Scott’s Green Lantern
In simpler terms, we’ve previously encountered Guy Gardner’s Green Lantern (played by Nathan Fillion) in the DC Universe, and Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) are set to appear in the upcoming “Lanterns” series. We’d also enjoy seeing Alan Scott, the original Green Lantern from DC Comics, make his debut. Debuting in 1940’s All-American Comics #16, Alan Scott was the first human to hold the title of Green Lantern. His robust physique, golden hair, and action-packed stories seem like a perfect fit for Alan Ritchson. It would be fantastic if all the Green Lanterns from the DC Universe were to unite, with Alan Ritchson being an excellent addition to the team.
1) Arthur Curry’s Aquaman
Jason Momoa is stepping away from his Aquaman character in the DCU, as he’s been chosen to play Lobo instead, debuting in the 2026 film “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” In the event that Aquaman appears in future DCU stories, Alan Ritchson could potentially take over the role. Ritchson previously played a young Arthur Curry for four episodes on “Smallville” alongside Tom Welling’s Clark Kent, so he might return to the role after almost two decades. Ritchson’s acting abilities show a balance between toughness and charm, making him an excellent fit as a new Aquaman.
Initially debuting in the 1941 issue #73 of More Fun Comics published by DC Comics, Aquaman made his entrance alongside Green Arrow. Over the years, he’s become a significant character in numerous compelling storylines within DC Comics and even joined various Justice League teams, opening up opportunities for Alan Ritchson to enjoy a rich and diverse career within the DC Universe. Ritchson not only understands the character but can also convey emotional depth with humor, making him an excellent candidate for Aquaman – or potentially even Batman – in the DC Universe, given his impressive physique that embodies the regal stature of an Atlantean King.
