4 League of Gentlemen legends reunite for all-new BBC comedy-drama

For an upcoming event next month, the cast from the popular BBC comedy series, The League of Gentlemen, will come together to produce an audio drama. A Bradford-based listening party and Q&A will kick off this release.

The work titled “High Cockalorum” was penned by Jeremy Dyson, and it showcases the vocal talents of Mark Gatiss, Reece Shearsmith, and Steve Pemberton, all of whom previously joined forces on the eerily comic series, “The League of Gentlemen.

In 1978, nestled within the heart of West Yorkshire, an audio drama unfolds. It centers on an emotionally stirring, amusing, and seemingly improbable meeting between a renowned movie star from Hollywood and a modest young man hailing from Leeds, who find themselves unexpectedly paired due to fate’s twists.

On Thursday, 18th September 2025, at 2:15 pm on BBC Radio 4, I’m eagerly tuning in to a thought-provoking narrative. This story, drawn from real-life experiences, invites us to ponder the complexities of fame, success, and the true essence of what truly matters.

The BBC released an image of Dyson, Gatiss, Shearsmith, and Pemberton together again for High Cockalorum; Monica Dolan, their co-star in the audio drama, is also included, alongside Goldie Crane.)

Previously, Dolan collaborated with Shearsmith and Pemberton on an episode of their anthology show titled Inside No. 9. Additionally, she has garnered recognition for her performances in Mr Bates vs The Post Office, A Very English Scandal, and The Thief, His Wife and The Canoe.

Enthusiasts of the talented minds behind High Cockalorum might find it intriguing to participate in the BBC’s Contains Strong Language Festival – a celebration featuring poetry, performances, and spoken word – as the audio drama they adore is set to be performed there.

I’ve learned that the BBC has planned for a public listening session and a Q&A segment as part of the festival schedule, but they haven’t disclosed who the participants for the Q&A will be just yet.

For additional information about the Contains Strong Language Festival, you can check out the BBC and Bradford City of Culture websites. The festival is scheduled to take place from 18th-21st September in the city of West Yorkshire.
