A new Wonder Woman special is coming out, and fans will love it! Similar to the popular Superman: Red and Blue series, this Wonder Woman anthology features a distinctive color scheme. Wonder Woman: Black and Gold originally launched as a six-issue series celebrating the character’s 80th anniversary, bringing together well-known writers and artists to showcase Diana’s heroism. Now, DC is releasing a new one-shot special in the same style.
The Wonder Woman: Black and Gold 2026 Special features four new stories starring DC’s famous superhero. Each story – “Decent Docent,” “Last Flight,” “The Truth Unreal,” and “Peach Thief” – highlights different strengths of Wonder Woman. For example, “The Truth Unreal” focuses on her commitment to honesty and fighting manipulation, while “Peach Thief” presents a charming and gentle take on her pursuit of justice. Keep reading to discover all four stories and how they stack up against each other.
4. “Decent Docent”

Written by Tom King, who currently writes Wonder Woman, and illustrated by Mitch Gerads (his collaborator on Mister Miracle), “Decent Docent” boasts a talented creative team. The story centers on a young Wonder Woman fan at a museum and the docent who keeps her company while Wonder Woman fights her villains. While it touches on familiar themes from Wonder Woman’s adventures, it feels less impactful than stories where Wonder Woman is the main focus of the action. It definitely has Tom King’s signature style.
3. “Peach Thief”

“Peach Thief,” by Jordie Bellaire and Paulina Ganucheau, tells a charming story about a young Diana before she became Wonder Woman, set on the island of Themyscira. When a peach harvest starts disappearing, Diana (who really wants a peach cobbler!) decides to catch the thief. She’s surprised to discover the culprit is her kangaroo, Jumpa! While it’s not an action-packed story, it’s incredibly sweet and features wonderfully warm artwork that playfully shows Wonder Woman’s strong sense of justice alongside relatable, everyday desires – who can resist a good peach cobbler?
2. “The Truth Unreal”

“The Truth Unreal” teams up Steve Orlando and Rossi Gifford for a compelling story where Wonder Woman confronts Anton Unreal, a cult leader who offers escape from modern life in exchange for complete control. This naturally brings her into conflict with him, and a powerful scene unfolds when she uses the Lasso of Truth to challenge his beliefs, ultimately exposing him as a fraud. The story brilliantly explores Wonder Woman’s commitment to truth and individual freedom, and it’s a shame it isn’t longer.
1. “Last Flight”

In “Last Flight,” Alyssa Wong and Karen S. Darboe team up for a compelling Wonder Woman story. Diana enlists the help of Xanthe Zhou, a character co-created by Alyssa Wong, to search for Steve in the Spirit World, launching them both on a magical quest. This issue is excellent, delivering thrilling action, beautiful artwork, and Diana battling demons—all driven by love, which perfectly embodies the spirit of Wonder Woman. While the story draws on Wong’s established Spirit World lore, Wonder Woman remains the central focus and truly shines.
