Some of these creative decisions still spark heated debates because, while they made an impact at the time, they were tough to swallow for a show with such high standards.

Unfortunately, “The Vampire Diaries” missed out on telling its tale more cohesively. Instead, it often took the easy, dramatic route – and the inconsistencies certainly showed.

To remedy this, mortal counterparts were created to sacrifice themselves and reestablish equilibrium. In theory, this provided backstory for Stefan, Elena (and Katherine), but upon careful reflection, it didn’t quite hold up as a coherent storyline.

As a film enthusiast, I find myself drawn to the intricate web of characters in TVD, particularly Silas and Amara’s doppelgängers. Initially, their duplicates seem to be created specifically due to the imbalance caused by these two individuals. However, the show fails to clearly explain why other copies might exist beyond those linked to them. It often presents doppelgängers as a sort of ‘universal natural phenomenon,’ making it feel like something inherent in nature to balance life and death.

While this explanation works for Silas and Amara, it feels slightly inconsistent within the grand mythological context that TVD establishes for the concept. The doppelgängers are captivating to watch, but their origin and presence throughout the series can sometimes seem disproportionate to their actual significance in the storyline.

3) Stefan Becomes Human After the Cure

In the series The Vampire Diaries, there were instances where events seemed illogical compared to earlier established rules, such as Stefan turning human again. From the very beginning of the show, it was consistently conveyed that the cure for vampirism could only be transferred by fully draining the blood from the person who possessed it. This is how Silas removed the cure from Katherine, setting a definite pattern. However, in an unusual turn of events, Bonnie merely injects the cure into Stefan following his killing of Enzo, and this action alone transforms him into a human. This scene directly opposes the rule that was previously established, suggesting it served as a quick solution to achieve Stefan’s tragic ending, but it contradicts the logic that had been carefully constructed over the course of multiple seasons.

The problem lies in the fact that this plot inconsistency is quite significant because it weakens the overall believability of the mythos surrounding the cure, which has been a crucial aspect of “TVD” since season 4. If the cure could be applied so effortlessly, why wasn’t it utilized earlier? Why did the series put such emphasis on setting up rules and complications related to it if they weren’t necessary? This seems like a contrived plot device meant to generate tension in Stefan’s storyline without giving it much thought beforehand.

2) Elena Wakes Up with Bonnie Alive

The conclusion of “The Vampire Diaries” wasn’t universally well-received due to its lack of coherence with the initial setup for Elena’s temporary departure from the show (as Nina Dobrev wanted to leave). In the narrative, a spell cast by Kai linking Elena’s life to Bonnie’s was established so that Elena could only wake up if her friend died, providing an explanation for her absence and giving Bonnie significant plotlines in the final seasons. However, the series finale ran counter to this: Elena woke up while Bonnie was still alive, with no convincing explanation provided other than a suggestion that Bonnie finally mastered her powers. No ritual, curse-breaking, or supernatural reasoning was shown on screen to back up this development.

The outcome provides a sentimental reward for Elena and Damon’s fans, yet from a narrative standpoint, it’s one of the most inconsistent choices the series has taken. This hasty plot twist gives off an impression that Elena’s absence was merely to wait until Nina could rejoin, a perspective that makes sense in terms of production. However, considering the storyline, it falls dismally short. The ending satisfies the need for closure but seems as though all previous tension was pointless.

1) Caroline Pregnant with Twins

In the popular TV series The Vampire Diaries, an interesting debate arose when one of the characters, Caroline, became pregnant. From the very beginning, it was established that vampires cannot reproduce – a fact emphasized frequently throughout the show, even by Damon himself. However, in season 6, the show introduced a plot twist: Caroline, being a vampire, was able to carry twin babies who were magically transferred from another character’s body. This is technically a magical solution, but it still leaves an unresolved issue – Caroline, being undead, should not biologically or magically be capable of carrying a pregnancy.

Although it served to keep the twins who later appeared in the “Legacies” spinoff, the execution was problematic as it contradicted established lore from “TVD.” This twist felt more convenient than compelling.
