4 Thriller Series To Watch on Netflix After Harlan Coben Mystery Show With Over 150M Hours Viewed

Harlan Coben’s new series, Run Away, is still a huge hit on Netflix, racking up over 150 million hours of viewing time since it premiered on January 1, 2026. James Nesbitt plays Simon Greene, a father whose life falls apart as he searches for his missing daughter, Paige (Ellie de Lange). While the show is clearly popular and well-made, many Netflix viewers have criticized it for unpredictable and sometimes illogical plot twists, misleading clues, and endings that are hard to believe. Interestingly, this mixed reaction hasn’t hurt the show – it’s actually increased interest in the eight-episode limited series.

The popularity of Run Away shows that many streaming viewers enjoy thrilling mysteries, even if they aren’t perfectly made. Luckily, Netflix has several highly-rated shows that are better written and explore deeper themes. If you’ve finished Run Away and are looking for another captivating series to watch, there are some excellent choices that offer similar excitement but might provide a more fulfilling ending.

4) A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder

As a mystery fan, I have to say that A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder really hit the spot when it came out in 2024, and it’s still one of my go-to shows on Netflix. Emma Myers is fantastic as Pip, this really smart high schooler who decides to reopen a closed murder case as a school project. What I loved is that, unlike a lot of crime shows geared towards adults, this one tells the story through the eyes of a teenager. It’s so gripping watching Pip fumble her way through the investigation – digging through social media, chasing down local rumors – and uncovering secrets that the police just overlooked. It perfectly mixes the drama of being a teenager with a really well-crafted, dark mystery, and that’s why it’s gained such a loyal fanbase – it’s got both the smart detective work and the emotional impact you crave.

3) The Residence

Netflix’s The Residence brings a fresh take to the classic murder mystery, placing a whodunnit within the intense world of the White House. Inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s reporting and produced by Shondaland, the series stars Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, a uniquely gifted detective investigating a death that happens during a state dinner. The show boasts a large cast – including Randall Park and Giancarlo Esposito – and a whopping 157 suspects within the White House’s 132 rooms. Unlike darker thrillers, The Residence is fast-paced and cleverly funny, highlighting the ridiculous side of politics as Cordelia uncovers the truth by challenging powerful figures. The grand setting consistently creates a sense of both importance and urgency, making all eight episodes captivating.

2) Bodies

If you enjoy a blend of science fiction and murder mystery, the 2023 series Bodies stands out for its complex and inventive storyline. The show centers around four detectives – Alfred Hillinghead, Charles Whiteman, Shahara Hasan, and Iris Maplewood – who all investigate the same murder, but in different eras of London, spanning 150 years. At the heart of the mystery is Elias Mannix, a compelling character whose actions have far-reaching consequences across generations. Bodies is praised for skillfully weaving together four separate investigations while gradually uncovering the surprising links between the detectives and the victim. By the end, the show evolves from a typical crime drama into a thought-provoking story about destiny and the choices we make.

1) The Beast in Me

Currently streaming on Netflix, The Beast in Me is a gripping psychological thriller. This 2025 limited series explores the dangerous connection between grief and obsession. Claire Danes stars as Aggie Wiggs, a celebrated author who has withdrawn from public life after the loss of her son. Her quiet life is disrupted when Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys), a powerful real estate developer and former suspect in his wife’s murder, moves in next door. Intrigued, Aggie uses her research skills to investigate his past, becoming increasingly consumed by the mystery. The series is driven by the strong performances of Danes and Rhys, as the tense dynamic between the grieving author and her enigmatic neighbor creates a blurring line between seeking justice and descending into madness.
