It’s common for video games to lose players over time, even those that are constantly updated with new content. Usually, player numbers are highest right after a game launches. However, a significant update can often reignite interest and bring players back. We see this happen regularly with games like Stardew Valley when new content is released. Currently, players are returning to a 2024 pixel art survival game to check out its latest update.
Core Keeper, a surprisingly excellent survival game, first launched in Early Access in 2022 and officially released in 2024. While it’s been consistently popular, especially after coming to consoles, it hasn’t gotten quite the attention it deserves for a well-made, open-world survival game that lets up to eight players team up. Recently, the game is gaining popularity again thanks to the new Void & Voltage update – and it’s a welcome boost for a truly great title.
Core Keeper Surges Back Up Steam Charts with Void & Voltage Update

Core Keeper gained a lot of fans while in early development. When the full version of the game launched, it became even more popular, especially after becoming available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. While it once had almost 46,500 players on Steam at the same time, it now usually has several thousand players each day. However, the recent major update, Void & Voltage, released on February 25th, has brought players back, and Core Keeper is now climbing the Steam charts again.
Since the release of Void & Voltage, the number of players enjoying Core Keeper on Steam has more than doubled. This is probably an underestimate, though, as Core Keeper was previously offered for free to PlayStation Plus Essential members in January, and the new update is also available on consoles. This suggests a significantly larger number of players are returning to the game, and it’s easy to see why so many are excited to jump back in!
Man, it’s been a while since the last big update for Core Keeper! After the ‘Bugs & Blast’ update back in March 2025, things got pretty quiet for a long time. There were a few small patches, but nothing major. The ‘Void & Voltage’ update was supposed to drop at the end of 2025, then got pushed to January 2026, and finally came out on February 25th. Seriously, we’ve been waiting ages for some new stuff to shake up the game and give us something fresh to do in this sandbox survival world!
As you can see in the trailer, Void & Voltage adds a lot of exciting new content to the game. It introduces a brand-new area to explore, challenging bosses and enemies, and tons of new items and systems to discover. Getting a whole new region to mine with friends is a great reason to jump into the popular co-op survival game, Core Keeper – and its overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam prove it’s worth playing. I’ve personally spent many hours enjoying the game on my own, so it’s clear that it’s fun whether you play with others or solo.
Core Keeper is now available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch for $19.99. You can currently get it for 40% off on Steam and the Nintendo eShop until March 5th.
