There’s growing excitement that some long-held hopes for the X-Men movies might finally happen as the Marvel Cinematic Universe explores stories about mutants. The X-Men have had fantastic adventures in comics and on screen since the 1990s. While 20th Century Fox’s X-Men films introduced the team to a wide audience and paved the way for a fresh start in the MCU with a new director, one beloved X-Men character never quite received the spotlight she deserved.
Fans enjoyed seeing iconic X-Men characters like Wolverine, Professor X, and Magneto in the Fox movies, but Dazzler never got a chance to shine. Created in 1980 as Alison Blaire, Dazzler can turn sound into light and energy, and she briefly appeared in the 2019 film Dark Phoenix with Halston Sage. Now, rumors suggest Marvel Studios is considering Sabrina Carpenter to play the character.
Why Sabrina Carpenter Would Be Perfect as Dazzler in the MCU
For years, fans have hoped to see Dazzler join a live-action X-Men team. While she appeared briefly in the film Dark Phoenix as a student at Xavierâs School, the portrayal wasnât quite what fans expected. A more compelling version of the character was featured in X-Men: The Animated Series and recently returned in X-Men â97. However, a truly satisfying live-action version is still missing. Given that Dazzler is a powerful hero, an LGBTQ+ icon, and a talented singer, the actress playing her needs strong performance skills â making Sabrina Carpenter an ideal choice.
Sabrina Carpenter first became well-known in 2014 for her role as Maya Hart on the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World. She then released her initial albums through Disneyâs Hollywood Records. In 2021, she moved to Island Records, which marked a turning point in her career. Since then, sheâs become a highly successful, multi-platinum artist, reaching the top of both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Hot 100 charts and winning two Grammy Awards. Recently, rumors have surfaced (reported by Giant Freakinâ Robot) suggesting Marvel Studios is considering her for a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many fans are hoping sheâll be cast as the character Dazzler.
As a huge movie fan, I always thought Dazzler had so much potential! It’s wild to think Bo Derek was almost cast way back when, and there was even talk of Taylor Swift taking on the role. Honestly, the version we got in Dark Phoenix just didn’t quite hit the mark. That’s why I’m really excited about the possibility of Sabrina Carpenter playing her. She’s become a massive star so quickly, and I think this role could be amazing for her career. Plus, with the MCU bringing mutants into the fold, it feels like the perfect time to finally do Dazzler justice and maybe even help Marvel get back to its best!
