5 Absolute Universe Moments That Defined DC’s New Fan-Favorite Imprint

As a huge comics fan, I have to say, the Absolute Universe line from DC was the most exciting thing to happen all year! 2025 was its first full year, and honestly, it delivered. Even with Darkseid stacking the deck against our heroes – taking away everything they loved – they still managed to fight back. It’s been a brutal struggle, but seeing them persevere is amazing, and I’m really starting to feel hopeful about the future of this universe.

The first year of the Absolute Universe wasn’t without its challenges. Some of the most striking events showed how powerful the villains are, like when the Absolute Justice League was formed. However, there were also inspiring moments, such as Absolute Batman’s victory against Bane, proving there’s still hope. These five moments, for better or worse, truly shaped the incredible and innovative debut year of the Absolute Universe.

5. Absolute Bane and Batman’s Final Battle

Bane proved to be Batman’s most formidable opponent yet. After severely injuring Batman in Arkham and harming those close to Bruce, Batman initiated a final, public showdown. Batman unleashed a relentless assault, including collapsing a building on Bane and even using Killer Croc against him, pushing Bane to dangerously overuse his Venom. However, Bane walked right into Batman’s plan, allowing Bruce to inject him with a massive overdose of Venom, ultimately shutting down his system and leaving him with only basic neurological function. It was a truly impressive victory for Batman.

4. The Absolute and Prime DC Universe Meet

Everyone assumed the Absolute Universe and the Prime Universe would remain separate for a long time. However, that changed during the Free Comic Book Day special, when the Absolute Mirror Master met his Prime Universe counterpart. This unexpected encounter left many questions unanswered – we don’t know how the Prime Mirror Master found the Absolute Universe, or what they talked about. But based on a recent appearance in Absolute Flash, it looks like the Absolute Mirror Master is now plotting something significant that will affect both universes.

3. The Absolute Justice Society Forms

This world is completely turned on its head, with corruption and oppression being the norm. Just like heroes typically band together to maintain order, the villains here have united to protect their own interests. The recent ‘Absolute Evil’ story revealed a secret meeting where major villains – including Veronica Cale, Ra’s al Ghul, and the Joker – decided to form their own team, a ‘Justice League’ designed to defeat the heroes. Because these villains are exceptionally powerful and influential in this universe, this new League could be incredibly dangerous, and it’s hard to predict what they’ll do.

2. The Absolute Joker Reveal

Readers suspected something was different about the Joker starting with Absolute Batman #6, and the recent cover reveal confirmed their suspicions. The Joker is actually Jack Grimm, the newest member of the powerful Grimm family. However, Absolute Batman #15 revealed a shocking truth: Grimm has discovered a way to live much longer than normal, and hides a terrifying secret – a 15-foot-tall monster that he uses to hunt people on his private islands. While he hasn’t faced Batman yet, he’s shaping up to be a formidable opponent.

1. Absolute Wonder Woman and Batman’s Team-Up

The Absolute heroes faced a difficult year with many challenges. However, there’s still reason to be optimistic, as demonstrated in Absolute Wonder Woman #15. In the issue, Wonder Woman turned to Batman for help investigating a mysterious symbol connected to Hecate in Gotham. Although it was a trap set by Grimm and Cale to defeat them both, Wonder Woman and Batman managed to survive by working together. Despite the heroes still facing overwhelming odds, their team-up proved they have the potential to significantly impact the Absolute Universe.
