5 Awesome Superman Powers That Have Never Been Used in the Movies

Superman is a globally recognized character, and his powers – like flying, super strength, and heat vision – are just as famous. These abilities, stemming from his Kryptonian heritage, make him incredibly powerful. Every Superman movie showcases these iconic powers because they’re central to who he is and why audiences love him. Though many fans think Superman is one of the strongest superheroes, the movies haven’t fully explored the extent of his powers as seen in the comic books.

Superman’s movies have displayed his famous superpowers, and even a few surprising ones like a kiss that causes amnesia or an S-shield he can remove to help capture bad guys. But over the decades in the comic books, Superman has demonstrated even more abilities that haven’t been featured on the big screen yet.

5) Superhuman Taste

Superman’s alien biology gives him incredibly sharp senses, and while his super hearing and vision are shown in films, his enhanced taste is often forgotten. It’s true that he doesn’t often rely on super taste in the comics, but it has been confirmed that all his senses are far beyond human levels. Although a scene of Superman using his super taste might be strange in a movie, it’s a neat power that hasn’t been explored on film yet.

4) Shapeshifting

Superman has changed a lot since he first appeared in comics, as you’d expect from a hero who’s been around for so long. Interestingly, some of his earliest, now-forgotten powers were actually quite impressive. For example, he once had complete control over every muscle in his body, letting him alter his appearance whenever he wanted. This ability was used in many stories during his early years, and it would be a fun and effective power to see in a modern Superman movie.

3) Mind Control

Superman is incredibly powerful due to his Kryptonian abilities. Beyond his super strength and destructive powers, he’s also, at times, been able to control people’s minds. This power first appeared in a 1947 comic book, Superman #45, where he was shown influencing others’ thoughts. However, mind control doesn’t really fit his heroic image, so it’s rarely used in recent stories. While it hasn’t been explored in the movies yet, it’s a possibility for future films.

2) Molecular Acceleration

While Superman is famous for powers like flight and strength, he has other impressive abilities that often get less attention. Super speed is a prime example – he uses it frequently in comics and movies. But he can also accelerate molecules, which is like using his super speed on a tiny scale. This allows him to become ghost-like or even disguise his appearance. It’s a potentially powerful ability that hasn’t been featured in any of his major films yet.

1) Super Flare

Superman’s Super Flare – also called his Solar Flare power – is often considered his most powerful attack. It debuted in the 2015 comic Superman #38 and works by Superman releasing all of his stored solar energy in one enormous burst. Because it’s such a devastating ability, he only uses it when absolutely necessary, which is likely why it hasn’t appeared in any of the Superman movies so far. However, it’s a visually impressive power that could be exciting to see on screen, so it might be featured in a future film.
