5 Batman Moments From 2025 That Made Our Jaws Drop

It was another successful year for Batman! As DC Comics’ most popular character, he starred in multiple ongoing series and limited-run stories, and even appeared as a supporting character in others. This year also marked the full debut of the Absolute Universe, introducing a powerful alternate version of Batman. Whether it was the main DC Universe or a new alternate reality, Batman continued to test his limits, relentlessly protecting the world, no matter the personal sacrifice.

It’s been a whirlwind year for Batman! We saw his origins explored in the “Batman: Dark Patterns” miniseries, and he even teamed up with Deadpool twice, including an issue written by Grant Morrison. While there was plenty of fantastic Batman content released this year, some moments really shone. Here are 5 standout moments from 2025 that reminded us why Batman is such a compelling character.

5. Batman Makes a Flame Back Down

The comic series Batman: Dark Patterns explored many ideas, but a particularly strong one was how stories about heroes are created. In the final issue, Batman tries to stop a dangerous arsonist who is setting fires across Gotham City. During the chaos, Batman briefly appears to control the flames with just a gesture. Bruce Wayne insists it was nothing special, but for the citizens of Gotham – and the readers – it perfectly showed how Batman is more than just a man in a suit; he’s a symbol of pure heroism.

4. Batman’s Great Locked Room Murder Case

I usually skip annual issues, but I’m really glad I picked up Detective Comics 2025 Annual #1. It features Batman tackling a truly puzzling mystery: a tech CEO found dead in a locked room with a note specifically asking for his murder not to be solved. I’ve read a lot of Batman stories with mysterious deaths, but this one was exceptional. It definitely makes me hope Al Ewing gets to write a regular Batman series, or at least a limited run.

3. Absolute Batman’s Final Battle with Bane

Throughout much of 2025, Batman from another universe – known as Absolute Batman – was engaged in a fierce battle with his world’s version of Bane. This Bane pushed Batman further than his main universe counterpart ever could. Though Bane came close to defeating Batman and harming his allies, Batman ultimately triumphed in a dramatic public showdown. He used every tactic available, including collapsing a building on Bane and disrupting his Venom supply, completely overpowering the villain and reducing him to just a brain, eyes, and spine.

2. Met (and Merged) with Deadpool

This year saw two team-ups between Deadpool and Batman, and the second one, a special issue by Grant Morrison and Dan Mora, really took things to the extreme. Batman and Deadpool found themselves trapped in a mental prison created by Cassandra Nova. However, through the clever writing of a mysterious author, they unexpectedly merged into a single hero called Deadbat. The fusion didn’t last long, but it was incredibly cool to see these two iconic comic book characters combine into one powerful figure.

1. Batman Killed by the Joker

Any discussion of incredible Batman moments has to include the shocking twist from the first issue of DC K.O.. It seemed like Batman was safely moving forward in the tournament, but then the villains attacked and seemingly defeated him with a spear. Though Batman remains connected to the story through the Knightfight tie-in, fans were truly surprised to see him eliminated and replaced by the Joker.
