5 Best Batman Villains Who’ve Never Appeared In Films

Batman is a true DC legend and one of the most recognizable superheroes in film history. For generations, audiences worldwide have enjoyed seeing his story come to life on the big screen. Each actor who has played Batman has battled classic DC villains, and most blockbuster movies include multiple antagonists from the comics. Animated Batman films have even featured a greater variety of villains, which makes sense given how many feature-length adventures the character has had over the years.

Batman films often rely on the same villains – like the Joker, Penguin, and Two-Face – instead of exploring the vast range of characters from the comics. While these classic villains are popular, many other compelling antagonists from Batman’s history haven’t gotten their chance to shine on the big screen. Despite numerous Batman villains already appearing in films, several great options remain surprisingly overlooked.

5) Punchline

The Joker is consistently ranked among Batman’s greatest villains, largely due to his many memorable appearances. Recently, Harley Quinn, once his partner in crime, has become incredibly popular and is now being replaced in the comics by a new character. Punchline is intended to be the Joker’s new accomplice and girlfriend, taking over the role Harley Quinn previously held.

Punchline is a relatively new character in the Batman comics, first appearing in 2020, so she doesn’t have the same detailed backstory as many other classic villains. Interestingly, this could be a strength for a potential movie adaptation, giving filmmakers more room to create their own version of the character. Although a film appearance isn’t imminent, Punchline is a compelling new villain with strong connections to a well-known Batman enemy.

4) Firefly

As a huge Batman fan, I really think Firefly deserves a proper movie appearance. He’s a well-known villain in the comics, but he’s been seriously shortchanged on the big screen. Aside from a small role in the animated movie Batman: Bad Blood, his live-action debut was sadly cancelled with the Batgirl movie. Thankfully, he’s popped up in a few TV shows, and those appearances really showed how cool he could be if given the chance to shine in a film!

Firefly would seem like a natural fit for a Batman movie villain. He offers opportunities for spectacular action sequences and his down-to-earth motivations make him a flexible character for storytelling. It’s surprising, then, that he hasn’t been featured prominently in a Batman film yet.

3) Mr Bloom

Mr. Bloom is a powerful Batman villain who hasn’t appeared in any DC films yet. He’s a relatively new character, first appearing in comics in 2015. Though he’s only been in a few stories so far, Mr. Bloom is considered one of Batman’s most exciting new enemies, thanks to his dangerous metahuman abilities.

Mr. Bloom has the power to change his size and strength, and can also control fire and electricity, making him a strong contender for a visually exciting movie. His diverse abilities make him a formidable villain, and his unique, fantastical qualities could bring a fresh perspective to a Batman film, distinguishing it from previous movies. Despite being a compelling character, he’s never appeared in a live-action Batman movie before.

2) The Batman Who Laughs

While several iconic Batman villains haven’t appeared in live-action films, The Batman Who Laughs stands out as particularly frightening and strong. Originating from DC’s Dark Multiverse, this version of Bruce Wayne is essentially a twisted combination of Batman and the Joker. Though the idea is straightforward, the resulting villain is among the most terrifying characters in the entire DC universe.

Despite being a truly terrifying and popular villain in DC Comics, The Batman Who Laughs hasn’t yet appeared in a live-action Batman film. His unsettling look and dangerous reputation would make him a standout movie villain, and many fans hope to see him in a future DC movie.

1) The Ventriloquist & Scarface

The Ventriloquist is a compelling Batman villain who hasn’t appeared in a film yet. He’s a quiet man with a mental health condition—dissociative identity disorder—who expresses his criminal impulses through his puppet, Scarface. While it would take thoughtful writing to portray a villain with a mental illness respectfully, it’s surprising the Ventriloquist hasn’t been included in a DC movie.

So far, the Ventriloquist has only appeared briefly in animated Batman stories, never as a main villain. Given his complex personality and disturbing ‘Scarface’ persona, he has a lot of potential for a compelling adaptation. While it’s unknown if or when it will happen, it would be fantastic to see him finally play a significant role in a live-action DC movie.
