Collecting comic books is a unique and captivating hobby. There’s a never-ending flow of fresh stories, starring both classic characters with long histories and brand new heroes. DC Comics, in particular, features a vast, shared universe where many heroes interact – sometimes independently, and sometimes as a team, creating epic storylines. However, with so many new comics released weekly, it can be a costly hobby. Keeping up with everything requires a significant investment of both time and money, making it difficult to read every ongoing series.
It’s tough deciding what comics to read when you can’t read them all! Buying comics always involves a little risk – what if you don’t enjoy it after spending your money? We’re here to help. Today, we’ll highlight the five best DC comics released this month and explain why they’re worth buying if you can only choose a few.
5) Batwoman (2026) #1

Greg Rucka returns to Batwoman with a fantastic new story that feels both fresh and familiar, continuing the themes of his previous work. Batwoman finds herself facing a more dangerous version of the Religion of Crime, now led by the powerful Darkseid, who poses a threat across the entire multiverse. They intend to manipulate Batwoman for their own purposes, but after facing immense loss, she makes a stunning comeback – arguably the most impressive entrance in comics this year.
This comic is a great place to start reading, especially for a character who hasn’t gotten the attention she deserves. It also works well for existing fans, seamlessly following up on the previous storyline. While this issue mostly sets the stage for what’s to come, it does so effectively, hinting at interesting themes and symbolism. It explores the far-reaching consequences of Darkseid’s actions, a question many readers have been asking since the end of DC K.O. Overall, it’s a promising new series with a lot of potential.
4) Absolute Wonder Woman #18

Wonder Woman consistently stands out, even within the excellent Absolute line of comics. This issue continues her conflict with the Suicide Squad, and Zatara proves to be her most challenging opponent yet. The story features a particularly exciting and well-done fight between Wonder Woman and Zatanna, showcasing both impressive action and beautiful artwork. What really makes this comic special is that it remembers Wonder Woman’s strength comes from her compassion and the bonds she’s built with others. Plus, it ends with a huge cliffhanger that promises an epic showdown to come.
This issue really showcases what makes Absolute Wonder Woman so special, especially its incredible action sequences. The fight between Zatanna and Wonder Woman is dynamic and visually stunning, thanks to Hayden Sherman’s fantastic artwork. The story also beautifully explores themes of love and connection, emphasizing Diana’s commitment to protecting those bonds – a key strength of this series. If you’ve been enjoying Wonder Woman so far, this issue will definitely deliver more of what you love.
3) Absolute Martian Manhunter #10

Following the events of issue #9, where the Agency forced information out of the Martian, John Jones is preparing for a major conflict. He was attacked by Agent Rainbow using a bizarre and powerful force, both literal and symbolic. John battled through this assault, as well as the overwhelming sense of hopelessness inflicted by Despair-the-Zero. He confronts the difficulties of his situation and ultimately reaches a personal understanding. The most compelling part of this issue is John’s progress towards self-discovery. He reveals a new side of himself, and his upcoming reunion with the Martian suggests even greater developments in the remaining two issues.
It’s impossible to discuss Absolute Martian Manhunter without highlighting the incredible artwork. Javier Rodríguez’s work in this series is truly exceptional, setting a new standard for the industry. This issue specifically features some of the best lighting and panel flow we’ve seen yet, and that’s saying a lot! Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s lettering is equally impressive, perfectly complementing the stunning visuals. The book is a visual masterpiece, and the story itself is breathtaking.
2) Batman (2025) #7

Batman receives a surprising summons from his arch-nemesis, the Joker, who has been confined to Arkham Tower for months. A new invention by Dr. Zeller appears to have cured the Joker’s insanity, and he surprisingly expresses regret for his past actions. However, he’s still the Joker, and his obsession with Batman remains. Most of the story is a conversation between the two, where the Joker argues they are more alike than anyone realizes. Ultimately, he reveals why he brought Batman there, leading to a massive conflict that will devastate Gotham City.
This issue takes a different approach than others in the current Batman series by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez. While previous issues were full of action, this one focuses on the complex relationship between Batman and his greatest foe. Don’t let the slower pace fool you – it’s incredibly tense and features some of Jorge Jiménez’s best artwork yet, including a stunning four-page spread that would make a fantastic poster. It’s essential reading for any Batman fan, and perfect for those who enjoy a more character-driven, yet still entertaining, superhero story.
1) Superman (2023) #36

After Superman vanished at the end of DC K.O., Metropolis was left without a protector. Now, Superboy-Prime – a hero who’s truly turned things around – is stepping up to fill the role. He’s determined to show everyone he can be a hero like Superman, and finally experience a normal life. This often-difficult, but ultimately endearing, character immediately dives into action, building a new life for himself while fighting villains. The story concludes by reimagining a classic Superman enemy in a fresh and exciting way. It’s Superboy-Prime’s time to shine!
This comic is everything you want in a superhero story. It begins with a genuinely sweet moment where the hero invites you to simply enjoy the adventure. It’s a lot of fun and shows the hero’s journey to becoming who he’s meant to be with humor and heart. This story is one of DC’s strongest redemption arcs in recent years, and it perfectly captures what Superman represents to people. It reminds us that superheroes inspire us to be better, and this hero understands that, allowing him to confidently take his place as a leader in the genre.
DC has a lot of great comics worth checking out, including more from the Absolute line and the interesting DC/Marvel team-up (which didn’t quite make my top list because it’s a bit of both worlds). While all these comics are worth a read, these five are my top picks for this month and offer the best value for your money.
