Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball manga is a landmark work that reshaped the Shonen genre and still influences artists today. It was later turned into two anime series, with Dragon Ball Z covering more than half of the original story. While the first Dragon Ball anime established the core storyline, Dragon Ball Z boosted the series’ popularity with memorable transformations, powerful enemies, and compelling new characters. A prime example is Gohan, Goku’s son, who first appeared as a four-year-old during the Saiyan Saga. Goku named him after his adopted grandfather, who had passed away in his youth.
Gohan instantly charmed everyone with his adorable personality, but few suspected heād become an exceptionally gifted fighter, potentially even surpassing his father. Throughout Dragon Ball Z, he consistently surprised both the heroes and the audience with his incredible abilities. His transformation into a Super Saiyan was particularly remarkable, happening at such a young age.
5) Ultimate Gohan Fights Super Buu
Gohan spent seven years focusing on his studies instead of fighting, which left him a little out of practice. Although he was far stronger than most opponents, the villain Buu was on a completely different level. When the Z Warriors couldn’t defeat Buu, who just kept getting stronger, everyone looked to Gohan for help once more. With guidance from Elder Kai, Gohan reached his maximum potential, becoming even more powerful than Gokuās Super Saiyan 3 form without needing to transform himself.
Most fans call this form of Gohan “Mystic Gohan,” but the official name is “Ultimate Gohan.” He was powerful enough to beat Super Buu by himself, but a lack of fighting experience and a single mistake led to his loss.
4) Gohanās Enraged Assault at Frieza Didnāt End Well
Gohan is a lot like his father, with a strong sense of compassion for others. When he was young, he was easily frightened by opponents, and it was very difficult for him to fight during the battle with Frieza at age five. But when Krillin was seriously injured and thrown into the river, Gohan’s anger took over, and he attacked Frieza.
Everyone was stunned when Gohan, in a fit of anger, actually managed to knock Frieza to the ground ā it was the first time anyone had ever done that! However, despite his initial burst of power, Gohan was still just a child and couldn’t truly defeat the universe’s most dangerous villain, ultimately losing the battle after a few strong attacks.
3) Gohan Delivers a Devastating Blow to Raditz
Saiyans get stronger when their emotions run high ā it’s not just about transforming into a more powerful form. The angrier they are, the more their power increases. Early in the Saiyan Saga, Goku was significantly weaker than his brother, Raditz, who had much more experience as a Saiyan warrior. Raditz easily overpowered Goku, and young Gohan, only four years old at the time, had to watch the painful fight.
Despite his best efforts, Goku lost control of his anger and struck Raditz with a powerful blow, significantly weakening him. After Gokuās sacrifice, Piccolo was shocked by what heād seen, and he took Gokuās son to train him for a year, preparing him to fight against other Saiyans.
2) Gohan Transforms into Super Saiyan 2
When Gohan was eleven years old during the Cell Games, he had become much stronger than before. Because of this, he was once again tasked with saving the world from Cell ā even Goku knew he couldnāt win, but believed Gohan could. Cell, however, wouldnāt make it easy, relentlessly tormenting Gohanās friends and ultimately killing Android 16 before his eyes.
That moment was the turning point for Gohan, pushing him to a new level of Super Saiyan power and allowing him to defeat Cell with ease. Driven by intense anger and sadness, he became the first Saiyan to achieve the Super Saiyan 2 form. What happened next was incredibly satisfying ā Gohan, a child Cell had underestimated, completely overwhelmed him.
1) The Father-Son Kamehameha Is Gohanās Best Moment of All Time
Gohan’s incredible strength let him overpower the villain, and he carelessly disregarded advice to end the fight quickly. He believed he could defeat Cell by prolonging the battle and inflicting pain, but this gave Cell the opportunity to activate a self-destruct sequence that threatened everyone. Goku managed to transport Cell to King Kaiās planet, sacrificing himself in the resulting explosion. Unfortunately, Cell recovered and instantly teleported back to Earth to continue fighting Gohan.
Gohan was overwhelmed with grief and exhaustion after his father died, but hearing Gokuās encouraging words gave him a renewed surge of power. Although Goku wasnāt physically contributing to the Father-Son Kamehameha, the attack represented his enduring spiritual presence and unwavering support for his son. While Gohan has experienced many powerful moments throughout his life, this one remains the most significant.
