Let’s be honest, Batman’s gadgets are one of the coolest things about him. He doesn’t have superpowers like many other heroes, but thanks to his intelligence and wealth, he’s created incredible tools to fight crime in the DC Universe. Every fan has a favorite – maybe it’s the classic Batarangs or even the surprisingly useful shark repellent. What makes Batman great is that he’s constantly improving his equipment and adding new gadgets to his arsenal.
The current Batman comic series by Matt Fraction and Jorge Jiménez perfectly demonstrates this, showcasing a variety of new gadgets Batman has added to his arsenal. Each one is explained with helpful little diagrams detailing its name and functions. Even after just five issues, we’ve already seen some impressive new tools, like the Layer 0 Body Armor and the Spectrolens. And there are sure to be more on the way! Read on to discover five of the coolest gadgets Bruce Wayne has been equipped with in this new series.
5. Layer 0 Body Armor

It’s unusual to see Batman using technology as Bruce Wayne, rather than as the superhero. Luckily, he was wearing it when a new villain, Ojo, attacked Dr. Anna Zeller, and Bruce managed to intervene. This Layer 0 Body Armor is remarkably light yet incredibly strong, able to absorb impacts and protect Bruce from injury. It’s likely he incorporates this material into his Batman suit as well, but it was smart of him to wear it even in his daily life.
4. Spectrolens

Most people recognize Batman’s mask for its distinctive white eyes, but the very first issue of Batman revealed those weren’t just for show. While pursuing Killer Croc, Batman used a device called the Spectrolens, built into his mask, to analyze things like bloodstains by filtering different types of light. It’s very similar to the Detective Mode feature in the Arkham video games, although it doesn’t include X-ray vision. This gadget was key to finding Waylon Jones, and it’s a shame it hasn’t been used more often in the comics – it’s a really useful tool for solving complex cases.
3. Vo-Com

The Batmobile is definitely Batman’s most iconic invention, but the addition of Vo-Com to his suit was a game-changer. After saving two women from a group called the Creeps, Batman uses Vo-Com to keep them safe until paramedics arrive. This technology lets Bruce Wayne control the Batmobile with just his voice. It only appears once in Batman #1, but it’s a really useful feature, particularly if Bruce ever needs to be in multiple locations and needs a lot of power.
2. Bat Gauntlets

The first issue of the new Batman comic introduces some fantastic new gadgets, including a device that significantly improves his fighting skills. While pursuing Killer Croc, Batman uses his Bat Gauntlets to unleash powerful electric shocks. Batman is already a formidable fighter, but these electrified gloves add a dangerous new element. Fortunately, Batman quickly realizes Killer Croc wasn’t looking for a battle, but rather needed help, or the fight could have taken a much more damaging turn with those powerful gloves.
1. Stealth Suit

As a huge Batman fan, I’ve always been fascinated by his gadgets, and the Stealth Suit is seriously cool. Most of the new tech gets worked right into his main Batsuit, but for really delicate missions, Bruce needed something completely different. It first showed up in Batman #3 when he was hunting the Riddler. This suit is made with this amazing material that blocks out sound and bends light, basically making him invisible until he wants to be seen! But it’s not just about stealth; it’s super durable too, woven with this titanographene stuff. Honestly, it’s one of the most effective tools in Batman’s whole crime-fighting kit.
