We based our rankings on how well the games were received by critics at the time, how popular they are with fans, and their sales figures.

5) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge

Released in 2022, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is a fast-paced action game inspired by the classic 1987 cartoon and old-school arcade beat-’em-ups. Players choose to fight as one of the four Ninja Turtles or their friends to save New York City from Shredder. The game was a critical and commercial success, praised for its nostalgic feel, fun gameplay, diverse characters, and stylish presentation. Since launch, it’s been updated with new characters and ways to play.

4) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade game came out in 1989. This classic side-scrolling beat-’em-up lets up to four players team up as the Turtles to fight Shredder and his Foot Clan across different levels. The game was full of nods to the popular cartoon series, featuring familiar characters and locations. It became a huge hit in the early 1990s and gained a large fanbase. The game was later released on home consoles and has been re-released many times, and its popularity paved the way for a successful sequel.

3) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters isn’t just one game – Konami created three versions for the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Nintendo Entertainment System. Most fans agree the Super Nintendo version is the best, and all three have been re-released over time. As the name suggests, it’s a fighting game, which makes sense for the ninja turtles who are all skilled martial artists, and it’s a lot of fun to play. This game was a shift for the franchise, moving away from the traditional side-scrolling action to a fighting game style similar to classics like Street Fighter II.

2) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist

Released in 1992 for the Sega Genesis, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist is a classic side-scrolling beat-’em-up. In the game, the Turtles face off against Shredder, who has stolen the Hypersone from another dimension and plans to take over the world. Gameplay is very similar to Turtles in Time, even sharing almost the same soundtrack, but Hyperstone Heist features more challenging enemies and five levels. While some players found it a bit short, the game was widely praised when it came out and is still considered a gem from that time period.

1) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time is the second arcade game based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and many fans consider it the best game adaptation of the heroes in a half shell. They must fight his enemies throughout history to rescue the Statue of Liberty and ultimately defeat Shredder. It’s a standout title in the TMNT franchise and has been re-released on several consoles over the years.
