5 DC Characters Scarlett Johansson Could Be Playing in The Batman Part II (#2 Is the Best)

The Avengers are gearing up for another big movie, Avengers: Doomsday, and rumors suggest we’ll see at least three of the original team members return. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Chris Evans are all confirmed to be involved in the next Marvel Cinematic Universe event, and many expect Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner to rejoin the action soon. Sadly, Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow likely won’t be back, as her character died in Avengers: Endgame. Despite this, Johansson is doing well, quickly landing roles in several new film projects.

Recently, Rebecca Johannsson appeared in the popular film Jurassic World Rebirth with Jonathan Bailey (from Wicked) and Mahershala Ali, who may be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She’s also going to be in Mike Flanagan’s new The Exorcist movie, which will be her first horror role. However, her biggest role yet is in The Batman Part II. Here are five DC characters she might be playing in the upcoming film.

5) Vicki Vale

Batman isn’t only a focus for Gotham City’s police; reporters are also eager to uncover his identity. Vicki Vale soon realizes Bruce Wayne is the man behind the mask, and a romance develops between them.

Johansson is known for starring roles, so playing the love interest for the main character fits her usual style. If she appears in The Batman Part II, it will be her first live-action film role since 1989’s Batman, where Kim Basinger played a similar part.

4) Phantasm

While many of Batman’s love interests leave when things get dangerous, Andrea Beaumont is different. In the highly praised animated movie Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, she initially agrees to marry Bruce Wayne, but calls off the wedding after discovering her father was involved in criminal activity. After her father is killed by the Joker, Andrea becomes a vigilante, struggling with the loss and seeking justice.

As a huge fan of Matt Reeves’ take on Batman, I don’t expect them to just remake an old story. But honestly, Phantasm feels like she’d totally fit into the world they’re building. And with Eva Green’s experience playing powerful characters, I can easily see her going head-to-head with Robert Pattinson’s Batman – she’d be a fantastic villain!

3) Janice Porter

At the conclusion of The Batman, Gotham City is in disarray and needs a capable district attorney to control the crime. Traditionally, Harvey Dent fills this role, but the filmmakers could introduce Janice Porter, Dent’s successor, instead. In the comic books, Porter eventually falls in love with Two-Face and begins secretly helping him.

Okay, so picture this: Johannsson as Porter? Genius! It’d let her really flex her acting muscles, showing us both vulnerability and a seriously cunning side. I can totally see a scenario where she gains the trust of both Batman and Bruce Wayne, becoming a genuine ally… only to betray them at the crucial moment. It’s a fantastic setup, but honestly, the whole thing hinges on having a truly compelling Two-Face to play off of. If they nail that, we’re in for something special.

2) Janet Van Dorn

If The Batman Part II wants to give Johansson a significant role in Gotham’s law enforcement without making her a sidekick to a villain, it could follow a similar path to the character Janet Van Dorn. Like Porter, Van Dorn steps in after Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face. However, she disapproves of both the heroes and villains operating in Gotham, preferring they not interfere with police work.

Van Dorn stands out as a character because of her past connection with Bruce Wayne, making her a compelling match for Johannsson. The dynamic of a strong, independent district attorney being in love with Batman, unaware of his secret identity, creates a powerful narrative that forces Batman to constantly re-evaluate his role and purpose.

1) Poison Ivy

So far, Matt Reeves’ version of Gotham hasn’t fully captivated audiences. The villains lack truly threatening powers, and there’s no fantastical element like the ability to resurrect the dead. But with the new DC Universe officially starting up, things could change by 2027.

If the sequel to The Batman takes a more playful turn, actress Kaya Scodelario might reprise her role as Poison Ivy, the famous villain dedicated to safeguarding plant life. Following a battle with a bizarre, rhyme-spouting criminal, Batman would face an even greater challenge.

The Batman Part II hits theaters on October 1, 2027.
