Pokémon are often seen as cute and lovable, and many people would be thrilled to encounter one in real life. However, they’re also powerful fighters with potentially devastating attacks. Luckily, they usually battle each other, but facing one without any protection would be frightening! We’ve chosen five relatively common Pokémon that would be truly terrifying to meet in a park, considering you’d have no way to defend yourself without a Pokémon of your own. This list isn’t ranked in any specific order.
1) Gengar

Gengar may seem a little cute, but this Ghost-type Pokémon is actually quite malicious and enjoys frightening people. The Moon Pokédex entry explains just how dangerous it is, stating that Gengar wants a friend and will tragically take the lives of others in an attempt to create one, as it was once human itself. This danger is also shown in the Pokémon anime, where Ash and Pikachu are briefly separated from their bodies. While they make it back, others aren’t so lucky and fall victim to Gengar’s terrifying power.
2) Espurr

Espurr is undeniably cute, but its appearance is deceiving – it’s actually quite dangerous. The Pokédex notes that it possesses immense psychic power, enough to affect everything within 300 feet, but it can’t control this ability. While an Espurr won’t intentionally harm everyone nearby, it could happen, so it’s best to keep a safe distance if you encounter one in the wild.
3) Pikachu

Pikachu is arguably the most well-known Pokémon, boosted by appearances in the anime series and the Detective Pikachu movie, and its undeniable cuteness certainly helps! This Electric-type Pokémon can deliver a powerful electric shock to anything it encounters – the Pokédex entry in Ruby explains that Pikachu will zap anything new, sometimes with a little too much power, leaving blackened berries as evidence. While humans don’t typically enjoy electric shocks, encountering an unfamiliar Pikachu could lead to a painful – or even dangerous – experience.
4) Inteleon

Inteleon, the Water-type Pokémon, takes inspiration from the spy James Bond – it’s just as cunning and dangerous. While it might seem harmless shooting water, don’t be fooled! Its Pokédex entry reveals it can precisely blast water from its fingertips at three times the speed of sound – Mach 3, or 2,308 mph. That’s the same speed as a SawJet, a powerful water-cutting tool that can slice through granite. So, if an Inteleon targets you, it wouldn’t be good for your skin or bones!
5) Mimikyu

Mimikyu may seem like a harmless, even pitiful, Pokémon, but it’s actually very dangerous. This Ghost/Fairy-type hides its true form under a disguise, and for good reason – anyone who has seen what’s underneath has been horrified. The Pokédex notes that a researcher who glimpsed Mimikyu’s real appearance was so terrified that it was fatal. If you ever see what’s hidden beneath its cloth, or if the wind reveals it, you won’t live to tell the tale.
