2025 was a fantastic year for role-playing games, with popular titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and the revival of classic series like Digimon Story: Time Stranger. As the year ends, many are wondering if 2026 can live up to the hype. While Bethesda has indicated The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t be released next year, there are still several promising new RPGs scheduled to come out in 2026.
The term “RPG” covers a lot of different types of games. While often linked to fantasy worlds like those in Elder Scrolls or Dungeons & Dragons, many relaxing games such as Stardew Valley and Dave the Diver also include RPG features. There are also excellent science fiction RPGs available. This list highlights the most exciting and eagerly awaited RPGs planned for release in 2026, and details what we know about their release dates so far.
5) Star Wars Zero Company

Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
While Star Wars Zero Company isn’t a traditional RPG, it’s still highly anticipated. This new turn-based strategy game from Bit Reactor will include many RPG features, which is why we’re including it here. Star Wars fans have been excited about it ever since it was announced earlier this year.
In Zero Company, you’ll build a team of characters and lead them through a challenging war against a powerful enemy. The game is designed for a single-player experience, putting you in the shoes of a former officer. Fans are eager to learn more details, and Bit Reactor currently plans to release the game sometime in 2026.
4)Witchbrook

Platform(s): PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2
Fans have been eagerly awaiting Witchbrook, a pixel art game often compared to Hogwarts Legacy. First announced nearly a decade ago, it recently reappeared in a preview of the new Switch 2 console. Unfortunately, the game, which was originally planned for a 2025 release, has been delayed until 2026, with no firm date yet announced. Hopefully, this magical school life simulation and role-playing game will finally be released next year.
In Witchbrook, you design your own character and begin your magical education in the coastal town of Mossport. As a student at Witchbrook College, you’ll improve your magical abilities, build relationships with classmates and teachers, and meet the people of Mossport. You can look forward to activities like brewing potions, performing magical rituals, and competing in spellcasting – plus, there’s even romance! And Witchbrook offers something Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t: the ability to play with others online.
3) Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection

Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
Unlike most of the games mentioned, Monster Hunter Stories 3 already has a confirmed release date: March 13th, 2026. This new RPG from Capcom is the third game in the Monster Hunter spin-off series, blending Japanese role-playing game elements with the fun of collecting creatures.
In Monster Hunter Stories 3, players will explore a world torn apart by war and facing total ruin. However, the return of a lost monster species, along with a new generation of Riders, offers a glimmer of hope. Similar to previous games in the series, you’ll build relationships with monsters and raise them as companions, instead of simply hunting them. It’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated RPGs coming out in 2026.
2) Fable

Platform(s): Xbox Series X|S
The new Fable game was initially planned for release in 2025, but it was quickly pushed back to 2026. While details are still limited—only a few story trailers have been released—fans remain excited and hopeful for the revival of this beloved RPG series.
The upcoming Fable isn’t a direct continuation of the old story; it’s more of a fresh start for the series. Trailers have revealed a seasoned, somewhat fallen hero who will guide the new main character. While we know it will have lots of sword fighting, we haven’t seen much gameplay yet to get a full picture of what to expect. Still, it’s shaping up to be a promising RPG to keep an eye on in 2026.
1)Crimson Desert

Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S
Crimson Desert, the next RPG from the creators of Black Desert Online, is already generating a lot of excitement for 2026. It promises a huge, immersive open world comparable to Skyrim. What sets it apart from other upcoming RPGs like Elder Scrolls 6 and Fable is that it has a firm release date: March 19th, 2026.
Crimson Desert is a large-scale, open-world action RPG. Players take on the role of a warrior named Kliff, who is trying to restore his former mercenary group, the Greymanes, after a devastating loss. His journey across the world of Pywel will be filled with danger, including battles against powerful dragons. This ambitious new fantasy RPG has generated a lot of excitement among gamers.
