The game titled “Pokemon Champions” holds a great deal of promise and could serve as the focal point for competitive Pokemon combat. Beyond this, it offers an enjoyable experience for casual players, potentially attracting more individuals to participate in tournaments. However, some fans are hesitant due to The Pokemon Company’s past performance. While certain aspects of the game have been disclosed, there remain several features that are yet to be clarified.
To ensure the success of the “Pokemon Champions” game, The Pokemon Company needs to carefully incorporate the following five essential features: Battling has traditionally been challenging for newcomers, but with games like “Pokemon Scarlet” and “Pokemon Violet,” this hurdle has become less daunting. By implementing these key elements in “Pokemon Champions,” The Pokemon Company will provide the game with a strong launch and a promising future.
1) Cross Saves
It’s been confirmed that the upcoming game “Pokemon Champions” supports cross-platform play, but it remains unclear if cross-save functionality will also be included. Cross-save would enable users to enjoy the game on various devices using a single account and seamlessly pick up where they left off on each platform. In other words, players could switch between playing on their mobile device and Nintendo Switch consoles without losing progress. However, if cross-save isn’t implemented, gamers will be limited to one platform for their gameplay.
Introducing cross-save functionality in the game would attract more potential players because it offers flexibility and continuity across multiple platforms. Lacking this feature could discourage some players due to limitations and the reluctance to invest time into a game without the assurance of saving progress. Additionally, cross-save prevents data loss if a player’s platform is lost or malfunctions, which would be particularly beneficial in games like Pokemon Champions where starting over or maintaining separate profiles can be inconvenient and frustrating. In essence, cross-saves make it possible for players to effortlessly continue their gaming experience across various devices without worrying about losing progress.
2) Properly Functioning Online
As a dedicated Pokemon fan, I can’t stress enough how crucial a robust online system is for us Pokemon Champions. The online experience in games like Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet was less than ideal, with matches disconnecting even during high-profile events such as Worlds. Given the central role of battles, particularly ranked ones, in the Pokemon Champions community, a seamless online connection is non-negotiable. It’s essential that the connection runs smoothly to ensure every battle can be completed without a hitch.
In addition to ranked matches, there should also be alternative options for when players prefer a more relaxed gaming experience. This could encompass random battles like in Pokemon Showdown, or playlists with distinct rules and modifications that rotate regularly. Offering such variety ensures that all types of players can find enjoyment within the Pokemon Champions game.
3) Multiple Battle Gimmicks
Each new installation of Pokemon brings a unique feature, like Terastallization in Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, or Gigantamax in Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield. As Pokemon Champions seems to be the preferred method for battling in the Pokemon universe, it’s essential that these distinctive features continue to appear. This doesn’t necessarily mean they should all be accessible at the same time; instead, they could be periodically swapped or selected by players.
In other words, it’s a great idea for the Pokemon Company to introduce battles where trainers can employ more than one special feature at once in Pokemon Champions. For instance, they might organize tournaments that allow for the simultaneous use of abilities like Terastallization and Mega Evolution, creating exciting fights and enhancing the strategic complexity in competitive Pokemon battles.
4) Engaging Reward System
In the multiplayer realm of Pokemon Champions, The Pokemon Company recognizes the need to engage players beyond mere battling excitement. To accomplish this, they could offer incentives such as:
1. Rewarding players who excel in battles with prizes like unique gear for their character, fancy outfits for their Pokemon, or eye-catching accessories for their profiles.
2. These rewards serve to encourage players to return and engage more frequently in the gameplay.
It’s also important to enforce consequences on players who show poor sportsmanship, such as quitting prematurely or wasting time when they are certain to lose. These actions should not go unpunished. On the other hand, those who play fair and win their battles deserve recognition. This is a common problem in various games, and it’s something that Pokemon Champions can tackle right from the start.
5) In-depth Single Player Content
To ensure that Pokemon Champions maintains player engagement beyond multiplayer battles, it’s crucial to include a substantial single-player mode. Pokemon TCG Pocket struggled due to its lack of compelling solo content, and we don’t want Pokemon Champions to follow suit. The Pokemon Company can implement this in various ways, but adopting a structure similar to the mainline games could be an effective solution.
Incorporating solo-focused challenges inspired by gym leaders and the Elite Four not only provides a standalone player experience but also stirs up fond memories. This could be rolled out in stages, starting with Kanto’s gym leaders and Elite Four as the initial set of challenges. Special events featuring Team Rocket or other teams would further enhance the content for players to engage with.
