Pokemon fans are excited about what 2026 will bring for the franchise. It’s the 30th anniversary of the first Pokemon games, and the brand usually celebrates big anniversaries with major releases. While we likely won’t know the full lineup of new Pokemon games until Pokemon Day in February – when big announcements are traditionally made – fans already have several creature-collecting games to anticipate in 2026.
As a longtime Pokémon fan, I’ve seen a lot of games try to capture that creature-collecting magic, and 2026 is looking huge for new contenders! There are some upcoming titles that really nail that classic Pokémon feel, while others are doing their own thing with totally different art styles and gameplay. Honestly, if you’re into Pokémon, you’re going to want to keep an eye on these new games – they could be real surprises!
5) Aniimo
Release Date: TBD
Platform(s): PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, Mobile
Aniimo is a free-to-play game where you collect adorable creatures in a large, open world. Its charming, 3D anime art style made a splash when it was shown at The Game Awards. While there’s no official release date yet, the developers at Pawprint Studio are planning another Closed Beta Test in 2026.
I’m always excited about new monster-collecting games as a Pokémon fan, and I’m keeping a close watch on Aniimo. We haven’t seen much of how it actually plays yet, but I’ll be looking for more details and feedback from anyone who gets to try it out, though it’s still uncertain if the full game will be released in 2026.
4) Honkai: Nexus Anima
Release Date: TBD
Platform(s): PC, Mobile
Okay, so I’m really excited about this new game, Nexus Anima. It’s made by HoYoverse, the people who brought us Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, which I love. And just like those games, it’s got a super cute anime look that immediately grabbed my attention. It’s being described as a strategy RPG where you collect creatures, explore a huge world, and dive into some pretty complex battles – sounds awesome!
I’ve been keeping an eye on Honkai: Nexus Anima, and they’ve shown off a lot of gameplay already – it looks like you’ll spend a lot of time exploring the world and customizing your characters. If you enjoyed games like Infinity Nikki or if you’re a fan of collecting creatures like in Pokemon, I think you’ll really like this one. They haven’t said exactly when it’s coming out yet, but since pre-registration and beta testing are happening now, I’m guessing we’ll get more news from HoYoverse sometime in 2026.
3) EvoCreo
Release Date: January 7th, 2026 (for PC)
Platform(s): PC, Mobile
If you enjoyed the classic pixel art style of older Pokémon games, you’ll likely love the trailer for EvoCreo. This turn-based RPG features a unique art style that still feels reminiscent of those classic Pokémon titles. In EvoCreo, you’ll explore the world of Zenith, capture creatures called Creo, and embark on a journey to find a missing father.
Originally a mobile game inspired by classic monster-collecting titles, EvoCreo is coming to PC on January 7th, 2026. It could be a great option to play when there aren’t many new major game releases at the beginning of the year. You can download a demo on Steam now to try it out!
2) Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
Release Date: March 13th, 2026
Platform(s): PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
Similar to Pokémon, the Monster Hunter Stories games are all about adventuring with creatures by your side. Unlike the main Monster Hunter games where you battle monsters, this series lets you become friends with them. This latest game tells a completely new story, meaning you don’t need to have played the previous games to enjoy it.
The game Monster Hunter Stories 3, first revealed earlier in the year, will be available on March 13th, 2026. Capcom has given fans a preview of the turn-based gameplay, which appears to be a strong addition to this popular series of creature-collecting games.
1) Monsterpatch
Release Date: 2026
Platform(s): PC, Nintendo Switch
This charming RPG, where you collect creatures, was hugely popular on Kickstarter. Its 2D pixel art is reminiscent of the original Pokemon games. While it takes inspiration from classic creature-collecting games, Monsterpatch also adds city building and farming, creating a large and promising game experience.
The game Monsterpatch, initially scheduled for 2025, is now aiming for a 2026 release. The developer frequently shares updates on their Kickstarter page, and it appears to be a creature-collecting game that will appeal to fans of classics like Pokémon. Plus, it will feature rare, shiny versions of the creatures, called Shiny MoNs.
