Almost everyone knows Superman. Whether you’re a dedicated comic book reader or just familiar with popular culture, the Man of Steel is an iconic character recognized by billions. Many fans are even aware of different versions of Superman, like his son, Jon Kent, or the villainous version from the Injustice games. However, there are numerous other Superman variations that most people have never encountered.
I’m not just referring to well-known alternate versions of Superman like those in Dark Knights of Steel or Red Son. I mean the more obscure ones – those that comic fans might know, but haven’t really broken into mainstream popularity. Think about Just Imagine’s Superman, a reimagining of the hero by comic book legend Stan Lee, or Milkman Man, a powerful but flawed Superman copy who looks like he’s from the 1940s. Keep reading to discover 5 fascinating Superman variations you’ve probably never encountered.
5. Harvey Dent

Okay, so this Superman isn’t the one we know at all! Forget everything about a super-strong Kryptonian. This version, from the Tangent Universe, is all about the mind. He’s actually a telepath – and not just any telepath, the most powerful one on Earth. It’s a really interesting take – his powers came from a government experiment meant to create super-soldiers, and it worked too well. He became incredibly intelligent and powerful, but instead of being a traditional hero, he ended up taking control of the world, believing it was the only way to save it. It’s a really different spin on the character, and honestly, a pretty compelling one.
4. Milkman Man

Despite his old-fashioned, friendly appearance, Milkman Man is a truly frightening villain. Created by Retconn, he was designed to resemble Superman and served as their main enforcer during the strange “Milk Wars” storyline. He possesses all of Superman’s powers, but lacks any of the hero’s kindness or personality. Luckily, he was defeated and never became a lasting danger to the DC Universe.
3. Stan Lee’s Superman

Stan Lee is famous for his work with Marvel, but he also had a chance to reimagine DC’s Superman. In the Just Imagine series, Lee presented a different take on the Man of Tomorrow. This Superman, named Salden, arrives on Earth as an adult, a law officer pursuing a past foe. He discovers Earth’s environment gives him incredible strength, speed, and durability, leading him to settle there. While not as powerful as the traditional Superman, Salden shares the same heroic spirit.
2. Ultra Comics

Earth-33 is similar to our own world – it doesn’t have naturally occurring superheroes. Instead, they created Ultra Comics to defend against a powerful threat called the Gentry. Ultra Comics is unique: he’s a living comic book who gains power whenever someone reads him, drawing energy from the readers’ minds. While his abilities are limited by being a comic book, he’s still considered one of the most interesting versions of Superman across the entire multiverse, even if he isn’t as overwhelmingly powerful as some others.
1. Super-Man

Let’s talk about Super-Man – that’s Kenan Kong, China’s take on the classic Superman. He received Superman’s life energy, giving him all the same incredible powers. Interestingly, Super-Man is also immune to magic, something that often causes problems for the American Superman. But what’s truly special about this character isn’t just his abilities; it’s his growth. Kenan starts out as a pretty unlikeable person, but he evolves into someone who really lives up to the ideals of DC’s greatest hero. If you haven’t read the New Super-Man comic, I highly recommend it!
