2025 was an excellent year for TV. Popular shows like Severance, The Last of Us, and Stranger Things continued to be hits, and new series such as Pluribus and The Mighty Nein also stood out. Beyond just great new content, many shows finally answered long-standing questions and solved mysteries that fans had been debating for years, making the last 12 months particularly memorable.
The biggest reveal, and the one fans had waited nearly ten years for, was particularly satisfying. While other shows provided answers much sooner, this one finally explained everything from a shocking opening scene to the motivations of the main villain, giving viewers the closure they deserved.
5) Yellowjackets Told Us Who Pit Girl Is

The show Yellowjackets began four years ago with the death of an unidentified character, later known as “Pit Girl.” After a lot of guessing, season 2025 finally revealed who was being hunted in the show’s opening scene. Season 3 focused on the girls’ final winter in the wilderness, bringing some unexpected turns to the story. One major reveal was that the hunt for Pit Girl wasn’t driven by starvation, but was a desperate attempt to distract Shauna while Natalie tried to get a signal for help. Tragically, this attempt cost Mari her life. As many viewers predicted, Mari was the one chased through the snow and ultimately fell into the pit.
It was surprisingly impactful that Yellowjackets Season 3 delivered such a strong emotional moment with Mari’s story. While she wasn’t always the most popular character, the recent episodes helped us connect with her just before her death. It was heartbreaking to learn the other girls weren’t actually the ones hunting her. Her death felt unnecessary, which made it even more devastating.
4) It: Welcome to Derry Solved a Pennywise Mystery From Stephen King’s Book

The new series, Welcome to Derry, just came out this year, so fans haven’t had much time to discuss specific details. However, the show did answer a mystery that Stephen King first introduced in his 1986 novel. This is something previous movies and TV shows never explained, adding an interesting new layer to the story. Welcome to Derry finally revealed why Pennywise, a being that can change its appearance, usually chooses to look like a clown when it hunts people.
Episode 7 of It: Welcome to Derry reveals that Bob Gray was a real person, not just a fictional name Pennywise used with Georgie. The series explains that Bob Gray was a circus performer known as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, whom the villain killed and then impersonated. He did so because he noticed how easily children were drawn to Bob Gray during his performances. While not a huge surprise, this backstory attempts to clarify a long-debated aspect of Stephen King’s original novel.
3) Gen V Season 2 Revealed What Happened to Marie’s Sister

The new series Gen V, a spinoff of The Boys, starts with a shocking reveal: Marie Moreau killed her whole family. Throughout the first season, she desperately searches for her sister, Annabeth, who hasn’t been able to forgive her. As the show progresses, Annabeth’s location becomes a mystery. Some people use Annabeth’s disappearance to control Marie, and it’s unclear whether Annabeth is intentionally staying away or if something terrible has happened to her, like being held captive in the Woods.
The first season of Gen V ended with a surprise: Annabeth wasn’t imprisoned in the Woods. However, Marie had no idea what had happened to her sister. Thankfully, the new season brought them back together. It was revealed that Annabeth had been intentionally avoiding Marie, spending years with family friends. But in the latest episodes, they reunited and began to resolve their issues, finally bringing this story to a satisfying conclusion.
2) Squid Game Showed Us How In-ho Became the Front Man

I was completely shocked when Season 1 of Squid Game revealed the Front Man was Jun-ho’s brother, Hwang In-ho! But honestly, it left me wanting to know why he ended up in that position. Season 2 really upped the stakes with the personal conflict between In-ho and Gi-hun, and seeing In-ho even enter the games himself was wild. While Season 2 gave us some hints about his past, it was Season 3 that finally answered everything. Learning exactly how In-ho won his own game – by brutally eliminating the remaining players with that knife Oh Il-nam offered – was a truly chilling reveal. It all made so much sense, but it was still heartbreaking to see.
Recognizing In-ho’s ruthlessness, the old man stepped aside and let him run the games. In-ho then presented Gi-hun with the same difficult choice, but Gi-hun refused to compromise his morals to survive. The backstory revealed about the Front Man helped explain his actions and why he was so determined to prove Gi-hun wrong about people’s inherent nature.
1) Stranger Things Revealed the Truth About the Upside Down

As Stranger Things reaches its conclusion with Season 5, many long-standing questions are finally being answered. One of the biggest mysteries – the nature of the Upside Down, the terrifying alternate world introduced in Season 1 – has been solved. It turns out the Upside Down isn’t another dimension at all, but a wormhole connecting our world to a place called the Abyss. This is where Vecna is holding the children he kidnapped, and where creatures like the Demogorgon originate.
Eleven’s search for Henry after the events at Hawkins Lab led her to a mysterious realm called the Abyss, which unintentionally created the Upside Down. This alternate dimension is held together by a strange, unique substance. In the final part of Season 5, both Vecna and the heroes from Hawkins plan to destroy this connection, potentially causing the Upside Down to disappear. After nearly a decade of mystery, the show finally provides a clear explanation of what the Upside Down actually is, and it’s considered one of the best answers given on television in 2025.
