Year after year, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) expands its roster with fresh superheroes, which fans eagerly welcome. However, the phenomenon known as Marvel exhaustion is not just a rumor, and it’s causing those in charge to reconsider their strategies. Alongside this predicament and the necessity to streamline the MCU cast, there seems to be a growing possibility that certain heroes might miss their chance on the big screen. This notion leaves me genuinely sad. The reality is that numerous heroes are worthy of their moment in the spotlight, even if it’s not through a standalone movie or TV series.
In a more simplified and conversational manner, Marvel has been making significant changes in their cinematic universe, with main characters like Black Widow sacrificing themselves in major events such as Avengers: Endgame. Additionally, supporting characters have faced tough times, like Thor’s friends and allies. This suggests that Marvel might be cautious about introducing too many new heroes, given the upcoming additions of X-Men and Fantastic Four. So, it leaves us curious about who else might join the team in the near future.
1) Christopher Powell, aka Darkhawk
Christopher Powell, more commonly known as Darkhawk, made his debut in Marvel Comics back in 1991. Despite being a multi-faceted and underappreciated character, he has a dedicated fan following. However, due to his relatively low profile within the comic book world, it’s uncertain whether we might see him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, despite my personal hopes.
Everything kicked off when Chris discovered the Darkhawk Amulet, granting him the power to interchange his physical form with the Darkhawk armor on command. As a youngster, he pledged to use all his might to prevent crime before it even started. Consequently, he teamed up with nearby superheroes, eventually joining forces with Spider-Man and the New Warriors. Over time, he transitioned from Earth-bound heroics to intergalactic adventures. Darkhawk morphed into a more cosmic protector, battling against alien adversaries such as the Shi’ar and his personal enemies, the Fraternity of Raptors.
In the latest instance involving Christopher Powell, he found himself in an extremely challenging predicament. As portrayed in the comic book series “Darkhawk: Heart of the Hawk“, Chris discovered a rip in the fabric of reality. He made the selfless decision to employ his spaceship as a stopgap measure for this tear, buying precious time for fellow heroes. In doing so, he dispatched the Darkhawk amulet, along with a cautionary message, back to Earth. To put it another way, Christopher appeared to be on the brink of death, and a new hero emerged to take over his role. Avid supporters of Chris Powell, including myself, express sorrow as he seems to have been left in limbo. The question remains whether this development implies that a cameo in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might involve Chris or his successor.
2) Doreen Green, aka Squirrel Girl
Doreen Green, or more famously known as Squirrel Girl, is an energetic and relentless superhero. If her name and appearance don’t already hint at it, Doreen possesses abilities similar to those of a squirrel, such as the remarkable talent for communicating with squirrels! She’s adorable and full of fun, always maintaining a sunny disposition. Despite what others might think, Squirrel Girl has shown herself to be a formidable combatant, defeating an impressive number of villains. In fact, she’s even bested a few heroes, including Wolverine. So, avoid repeating the mistake of underestimating her capabilities.
Recently, Squirrel Girl has undergone a significant transformation, largely due to her role in Marvel Rivals. Although her performance in this game might lead one to believe she’s destined for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the truth is more nuanced. Originally, Squirrel Girl was slated to star in a TV show called New Warriors, alongside other heroes. However, the show was intended to premiere alongside Cloak and Dagger back in 2018, but unfortunately, it never made it to our screens. Fans have openly discussed and mourned the cancellation of this series.
The cancellation of New Warriors leaves the characters in an unusual predicament, as the series progressed significantly, even screening its pilot episode for test audiences. This means that characters like Doreen were already cast (with Milana Vayntrub in the role), which adds complexity to the situation. It could imply contractual obligations are still active, and this is further complicated by potential rights issues.
3) Adam Brashear, aka Blue Marvel
Dr. Adam Brashear is recognized as one of Marvel Comics’ brightest minds, though not as widely known as other superheroes with similar intellectual prowess. His story shares some similarities with other comic book characters who delve into science, as his life took a dramatic turn due to an experiment gone awry, which placed him dangerously near an explosion. Miraculously, the incident didn’t claim Dr. Brashear’s life; instead, it transformed him into something akin to a living antimatter reactor, fortunately, one that remained stable. He adopted the role of Blue Marvel and has since been safeguarding the universe.
Blue Marvel has been associated with both esteemed and controversial groups within the Marvel Universe. He fought alongside the Mighty Avengers and the Ultimates, which remains one of the top cosmic teams today. On the other hand, he was also a member of the Illuminati, implying he’s witnessed some dubious choices, and we all recall the disastrous outcomes that followed those actions.
I’m quite eager to imagine Dr. Adam Brashear joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). His character offers a wealth of possibilities, as he has proven adaptable to various teams, even suggesting a revamped Defenders group. Moreover, it would be intriguing to watch a unique intellect confront the challenges that Marvel presents to its heroes. While it may seem unlikely that we’ll meet Blue Marvel in the MCU, I can’t help but keep my fingers crossed.
4) Gwendolyn Poole, aka Gwenpool
In essence, Gwenpool, born Gwendolyn Poole from an alternate reality much like ours (Earth-TRN565), has been a subject of much debate in Marvel Comics. However, it’s important to note that she often receives unfair treatment, partly due to misunderstandings about her name and origin. Growing up as a dedicated comic book enthusiast just like many of us, she continued to read comics until an unexpected event transported her to Earth-616.
Gwen, much like any dedicated comic book enthusiast, sought to leverage her deep understanding of the comic book world by adopting the moniker Gwenpool. However, events didn’t unfold as she had hoped, and for a while, she found herself serving under M.O.D.O.K., but eventually managed to break free from this role. This liberation came at a price – it required effort, turmoil, and time.
Gwenpool possesses an exceptional talent: she can manipulate her comic book environment, moving through panels, altering footnotes, and so forth. Regrettably, this skill was unable to prevent the termination of her series. Nevertheless, Gwen’s awareness of her comic book reality introduced a nearly philosophical peril to its conclusion.
As a die-hard movie fan, I’ve been eagerly following the latest developments with Gwenpool. Lately, she found herself squaring off against someone bearing the mantle of my old friend, Gwen Stacy – yes, the one who came back from beyond the grave to seek vengeance on those who wronged her. It’s a tangled web, but it might just work in Gwenpool’s favor!
Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like we’ll be seeing Gwenpool pop up in the MCU anytime soon. But hey, a girl can dream! You see, she was once besties with everyone’s favorite aquatic beast, Jeff the Land Shark. Now, if he were to make an appearance in a West Coast Avengers series, well, who knows? We might just catch a glimpse of some familiar (and fantastic) faces, like our quirky Gwenpool!
5) Craig Hollis, aka Mister Immortal
Craig Hollis, commonly known as Mister Immortal, is a unique superhero who possesses an unusual ability. Unlike most superheroes, his power doesn’t shield him from death or pain, but it allows him to return from the dead. In essence, he heals over time and resurrects. It’s important to note that Craig isn’t a mutant or an Inhuman. Instead, he is Homo Supreme, and his unique trait is not just immortality, but a form of retroactive immortality accompanied by a healing factor. This means he can recover from any injury, even those that would typically result in death.
Unfortunately, it’s worth noting that Mister Immortal’s power doesn’t alleviate his pain. This has often led him to angry outbursts upon resurrection, which can be understood given the circumstances. However, despite this limitation, Mister Immortal has consistently strived to act as a hero, and fans eagerly anticipate seeing him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is a founding member of the Great Lakes Avengers and has also been part of other teams such as the West Coast Avengers over the years.
It’s possible that Mister Immortal, like Squirrel Girl, is stuck in a similar predicament. Originally intended for the “New Warriors” series and portrayed by Derek Theler, it remains unclear if he will join any MCU team in the future. However, I remain hopeful. We might even get fortunate enough to have a “Great Lakes Avengers” series or a new version of the “West Coast Avengers”. The possibilities are endless!
