5 Minor Star Wars Characters With Incredibly Complex Backstories

Star Wars continues to be incredibly popular, even after more than 40 years. Despite some criticism of the newer Disney films, there’s been no attempt to completely restart the series. This lasting success is due to the detailed and expansive story set in a vast galaxy. The conflict between good and evil has existed for ages, and many different worlds and characters contribute to the story. However, with so much going on, the focus usually remains on the central heroes.

What makes Star Wars truly special is the wealth of extra stories that give depth to even the smallest characters. Almost everyone and everything in the Star Wars universe has had its moment in the spotlight. Here are five lesser-known characters with surprisingly detailed histories.

5) Lobot

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back features the distinctive planet Bespin, which is always covered in thick clouds. The city built there, Cloud City, makes its people wealthy by mining gas from the atmosphere. In Episode V, Lando Calrissian manages Cloud City with the help of his assistant, Lobot, who keeps things running smoothly.

Lobot isn’t your average cyborg. Originally from the planet Bespin, he once worked for the Empire but later quit to join Lando Calrissian’s smuggling operation. A dangerous mission nearly killed him, forcing his robotic implants to take over his body. Even though this meant losing his individual personality, Lobot never lost his strong sense of what’s right and wrong.

4) Tera Sinube

Though Star Wars: The Clone Wars primarily focuses on the bonds between clone troopers and their Jedi leaders, the series also allows some Jedi to embark on individual missions. In Season 2, Ahsoka Tano teams up with the experienced Jedi Master Tera Sinube to find a missing lightsaber. Sinube, a seasoned Jedi, offers wisdom similar to Yoda’s, but he’s also a capable fighter.

During the High Republic, Sinube worked as a detective on Coruscant, often solving mysteries before anyone else knew they existed. He was also a Jedi Master for many years, serving on the Jedi Council and teaching Padawans – including, unknowingly, the future Sith Lord Count Dooku.

3) Sy Snootles

While Star Wars: Return of the Jedi isn’t quite as strong as the earlier films, it has a few moments that feel forced or out of place. The scene at Jabba’s Palace, with its strange musical performance by aliens, is a prime example – it’s still famously odd. A key figure in this sequence is Sy Snootles, whose backstory explains how she ended up working for Jabba the Hutt.

Before the Clone Wars began, Sy Snootles fell in love with Ziro the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s uncle. After Ziro abandoned her, Sy became a bounty hunter and took a job from Jabba to eliminate her ex-lover. With Ziro gone, Sy returned to her career as a singer, performing for Jabba’s guests.

2) Cornelius Evazan

Let me tell you, if you’re looking for a welcoming atmosphere, steer clear of the Mos Eisley Cantina on Tatooine – it’s even more intimidating than Jabba’s Palace! When Luke and Ben walk in during Star Wars: A New Hope, you can practically feel the hostility. But one guy, Cornelius Evazan, really takes the cake. He instantly starts a fight with Luke and quickly learns a painful lesson about getting between a Jedi and his lightsaber!

Evazan is understandably upset, considering he’s a famous plastic surgeon whose own face was badly damaged in an encounter with a bounty hunter. He briefly worked for Dryden Vos, and even created the Decraniated for the crime lord.

1) Willrow Hood

As a Star Wars fan, you know we love to notice details, and sometimes a background character really grabs our attention! That’s definitely the case with Willrow Hood. He shows up during the escape from Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back, and he seems to be running away with… well, what looks exactly like an ice cream maker! It’s become a big question for fans – what is he carrying?

Additional information shows that Hood plans to abandon his home when the Empire invades, and he’s been given the important job of delivering a canister to Batuu. Despite several dangerous encounters with stormtroopers, Hood manages to escape and starts his journey to the Outer Rim.
