In fighting games, learning combos is key to winning. While special moves look cool, combos are what really deal damage and help you defeat your opponent quickly. Because of this, some combos are incredibly challenging to perform, even for experienced players. We’ve researched popular fighting games to find some of the most difficult combos out there – ones that will definitely test your skills and give your fingers a workout!
1) Virtua Fighter 2 – The Stun Palm of Doom
If you played Virtua Fighter 2 back in 1994, you probably remember SPod – a notoriously difficult move nicknamed the “Stun Palm of Doom.” This move, used by the character Akira, was incredibly hard to pull off. It required extremely fast button presses, precise timing, and well-timed pauses. Mastering the rhythm of the SPod was tough, but landing it could instantly knock out an opponent, making it a devastatingly effective technique.
2) Darkstalkers 3 – The Sako Combo
Some combos are challenging, but the “Sako Combo” – named after the player who first discovered it – is particularly difficult. It’s performed with the character B.B. Hood in the game Darkstalkers 3, and despite sounding straightforward, it’s surprisingly hard to pull off. The combo involves repeating just three moves continuously. While the moves themselves aren’t complex, executing them requires precise timing and can quickly strain your hands. Successfully performing two moves with perfect timing in a row creates an infinite loop, repeatedly hitting your opponent.
3) Marvel vs. Capcom 2 – Magneto ROM Infinite
The Marvel vs. Capcom series is famous for its complex combos, and the most notorious is easily the Magneto ROM Infinite. This combo is so well-known it’s named after the first player who successfully performed it. It’s incredibly difficult because it requires a constant, unbroken series of button presses. When done correctly, it allows you to endlessly attack your opponent, leading to a guaranteed win. While extremely challenging, professional players have proven it’s possible, offering encouragement to others who want to try.
4) Street Fighter IV – Zangief’s Dash 720
Zangief is a long-time favorite character in the Street Fighter series. In Street Fighter IV, he has a particularly difficult combo to pull off, demanding precise timing and skill. His famous Dash 720 can be devastating if executed correctly, but it relies on a complex series of directional inputs. This makes it tricky, as players can accidentally move the wrong way or miss the combo entirely. However, once a player masters it, it’s a very powerful move.
5) Street Fighter 6 – Guile’s 84-Hit Combo
Guile is a well-known character in the Street Fighter series, and he’s particularly strong in Street Fighter 6. While the game has many challenging combos, Guile’s 84-Hit Combo is considered one of the most difficult. If performed flawlessly, it lasts almost 50 seconds and deals over 9,800 damage—enough to defeat any opponent. However, it requires a precise sequence: landing 24 Sonic Booms and filling ten Drive Meters. Once the player inputs everything correctly, Guile unleashes the combo, and it’s an impressive sight.
