2025 was a significant year for gaming, delivering several eagerly awaited titles like Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 and Hollow Knight: Silksong. We also saw the release of a new Nintendo console, along with a fresh Mario Kart game. However, the year wasn’t without its disappointments, as many anticipated games experienced delays, pushing back their release dates.
It’s always frustrating when a game gets delayed, even if fans understand studios need extra time. It’s especially disheartening when a release date has already been announced. This year, 2025, saw several major delays, including for a game I was really excited about and one of the most popular series ever. Here’s a look at the five most disappointing delays of the year.
5) Paralives (Early Access)

Fans have become increasingly frustrated with The Sims 4 due to frequent bugs and expensive add-on packs. Many players who enjoy life simulation games were hoping for a strong alternative, and Paralives seemed like the most promising option when inZOI proved too demanding for some computers. The developers recently announced that Paralives will enter Early Access in December 2025.
Unfortunately, the Early Access launch of Paralives has been postponed. The developers announced on November 14th that the game is now expected to release in Early Access on May 25th, 2026. This extra time will allow the indie team to refine the game and ensure it’s fully polished for players. While it’s disappointing news for fans who have been eagerly awaiting the game, it means a better experience when it finally arrives.
4) Witchbrook

As a huge fan of cozy games, I was absolutely floored when Witchbrook finally reappeared during the Nintendo Direct earlier this year! And to top it off, they gave us a winter 2025 release window! After waiting for so long, seeing the new trailer and getting a glimpse of what this magical, pixel-art life sim is all about was incredibly exciting.
Ugh, I was really hoping Witchbrook would finally get a release date, but sadly it’s been delayed. They’re now saying sometime in 2026, which feels like a long way off! Honestly, I’m preparing to wait even longer, but I’m still keeping my fingers crossed that this witchy life sim will be amazing when it finally comes out.
3) Fable

Fans of fantasy role-playing games have been eagerly awaiting the reboot of Fable. The original Fable series was a hugely popular franchise for Xbox, and initial previews of the new game looked good. A trailer released in 2024 initially promised a 2025 release, but unfortunately, like several other major games this year, it’s been delayed.
Xbox Game Studios has officially announced that Fable will now be released in 2026. While there’s no specific date yet, and it’s possible the game won’t even come out until after 2026, fans hoping for a release in 2025 will have to wait a bit longer for the return of this fantasy RPG.
2) Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra

It’s been a really frustrating year as a Marvel fan, especially because I was so hyped for Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra. We first heard it was pushed back from 2025 to “early 2026” in May, which was already a bummer – it’s been a while since we got a major story-driven Marvel game on consoles after Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in 2023. And unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of the disappointing news.
Skydance Games announced some disappointing news in November: the release of Rise of Hydra has been delayed again. There’s no new date for the game, leaving fans concerned it might never come out. For now, players will have to wait an unspecified amount of time for Marvel 1943 instead.
1) GTA 6

It’s no surprise that the delay of this game is considered the most disappointing of 2025. Fans have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to GTA 5 for over ten years, and GTA 6 is arguably the most anticipated game ever made. The long wait has become a running joke, with fans constantly pointing out that other things have happened in the time it’s taken to release the game. Many expected that wait to finally be over this year, as the game was originally planned to come out in 2025.
We received a new trailer for the game in May, but also disappointing news: GTA 6 was pushed back from a 2025 release to May 2026. Unfortunately, the delays continued, and in November, Rockstar announced the game wouldn’t arrive until fall 2026. Given these repeated setbacks, many fans are preparing for the possibility of further delays. Hopefully, fall 2026 will be the definitive release date for GTA 6, but we’ll need to wait and see if that holds true.
