5 Most Expensive Game Skins Players Actually Owned

Many video games let you change how things look with “skins,” and some of these are highly sought after, especially in games like Fortnite and Counter-Strike. People often trade or sell common skins, but the really rare ones are in a league of their own. While swapping a skin worth a few dollars is normal, some skins are valued in the tens or even thousands of dollars – a side of gaming that most players will never experience. These incredibly rare skins were all previously owned by players, and their prices are often surprisingly high.

1) Ethereal Flames Pink War Dog – Dota 2

Back in 2013, a player named PAADA sold a very rare in-game item from Dota 2 for $38,000 on the r/DOTA2Trade subreddit. The item was a pink War Dog courier with a special visual effect called Ethereal Flame. This particular pink color wasn’t intentionally part of the game; it was a rare glitch that Valve fixed later. Because of this, the few pink War Dogs with the Ethereal Flame became incredibly valuable, as the War Dog is already the most popular type of courier in the game.

2) Skadoodle-Signed Dragon Lore AWP Skin – CS:GO

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) is famous for its valuable in-game item skins, some of which have sold for incredibly high prices. One example is a Dragon Lore AWP skin signed by Tyler “Skadoodle” Latham. After his team, Cloud9, won the ELEAGUE Major: Boston 2018, this unique skin sold for over $61,000. Skadoodle was a member of Cloud9 at the time. This particular skin was a limited-edition souvenir, only available during CS:GO tournaments. Dragon Lore is the rarest skin from the Cobblestone Packages, though most typically sell for around $30. It was originally bought by a player named Drone for $35,000.

3) Souvenir AWP – Counter-Strike

High prices for in-game items aren’t unique to CS:GO. The Souvenir AWP | Dragon Lore skin from Counter-Strike 2 has also been sold for large amounts of money on several occasions. This rare skin is only available in special souvenir packages earned during professional tournaments. The most valuable one sold was in perfect, brand-new condition and had four gold stickers on it. It initially sold for $150,000, and while unconfirmed, a later private sale is rumored to have reached $250,000.

4) StatTrak Factory New AK-47 Blue Gem pattern – Counter-Strike

Last year, a rare AK-47 Case Hardened skin from Counter-Strike 2 sold for $132,500, making headlines on Twitter as one of the priciest CS skins ever sold. Even more remarkably, another AK-47 Case Hardened skin – this one with special Holo stickers from Katowice 2014 – was part of a $500,000 deal, accounting for $400,000 of that price. These sales dramatically increased the value of these unique in-game items, reaching new heights in the market, though even more expensive skins are out there.

5) Karambit | Case Hardened (Blue Gem) #387 – Counter-Strike

The Karambit | Case Hardened (Blue Gem) #387 is famous for being the most valuable in-game knife skin, currently worth around $2 million. What makes it so rare is that only 12 out of 370 possible patterns are considered ‘Blue Gems,’ and the odds of getting this specific pattern when opening a case are incredibly low – about 1 in 617,000. Finding it in perfect condition (Factory New) is even harder, with a 1 in 131 million chance. One player was even offered $1.5 million for it but rejected the offer, believing it was worth at least $2 million.
