Great video games don’t need to be endlessly replayable. A compelling story or fun gameplay can be enough to make a game beloved. But some games offer reasons to play through them multiple times – perhaps by letting your choices change the story, or by adding new gameplay elements that make each playthrough fresh. Ultimately, certain games simply become more enjoyable the more you play them.
Below are five games that improve the more you play them.
5) Hitman: World of Assassination
The *Hitman* series is known for letting players complete missions in many different ways, thanks to its carefully designed levels. *World of Assassination* expands on this by combining all three of IOI’s recent *Hitman* games into one experience.
Each time you replay a Hitman level, you gain more than just new gadgets for Agent 47. You also learn the level itself – like guard patterns, how to get the disguises you need, and creative ways to eliminate your target. Once you truly understand a Hitman level, you’ll feel like a professional assassin.
4) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Knights of the Old Republic is often compared to other classic BioWare games, and for good reason. While it offers choices that let you explore both the Dark and Light sides of the Force, what truly makes *KOTOR* enjoyable to play again and again is the ability to deeply customize your character’s class.
The game lets you shape how your character experiences the story, so each time you play feels fresh, even if you already know what happens. Plus, the characters you choose to travel with influence events and create different experiences. While the overall story remains consistent, the path you take to the ending can vary greatly with each playthrough.
3) RimWorld
RimWorld is a bit different from other story-driven games because it’s more about building your own story than completing a set one. Every time you play, it’s a unique experience, and you gradually learn the game’s mechanics, making future playthroughs a little easier. It’s still challenging, but you’ll become more familiar with how things work.
Many players find that *RimWorld* truly becomes enjoyable after experiencing several failures – it takes time to learn the ropes. Even a successful playthrough doesn’t feel like ‘the end,’ as your increased understanding makes you want to start a new colony right away.
2) Hades 2
While many roguelike games are great, I’m choosing just one: *Hades 2*. It deserves the spot because it offers a lot to do even after you’ve seemingly completed it. Like the first *Hades*, you’ll need to replay through the underworld multiple times to truly finish everything, and each run unlocks new rewards and gameplay options.
Hades 2 is packed with content, making it one of the most replayable games in recent years. Each run feels fresh, and changing weapons almost feels like starting a completely new game. Since the game is designed for multiple playthroughs, you can expect to enjoy it even after beating it many times.
1) Baldur’s Gate 3
Like *KOTOR*, *Baldur’s Gate 3* is a great example of a choice-driven RPG. But *Baldur’s Gate 3* really raises the bar, offering an incredible amount of freedom in how you play and the characters you can create.
While there are multiple ways the story can end, that’s only a small part of what makes *Baldur’s Gate 3* so special. A single playthrough can easily last over 100 hours, and even after that, players keep finding new details and conversations on subsequent runs, making it a truly incredible experience.
