Last year, Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters was arguably the best animated movie they released. It was a critical success, earning a Golden Globe nomination and ultimately winning the award. While many elements contributed to its quality, the film’s music was particularly strong and played a key role in its success.
Music was central to the film, which explored the lives of pop idols through the lens of magical warrior girls. While fans may be disappointed there isn’t more content yet, many similar shows are available, especially within the anime world. Despite numerous music-themed anime options, these five stand out as perfect choices for those missing the musical and idol-focused elements of KPop Demon Hunters.
5) Oshi No Ko

While Oshi No Ko isn’t quite like KPop Demon Hunters – it doesn’t focus heavily on music – it’s a fantastic anime for understanding what it’s like to be an idol. Oshi No Ko realistically portrays idol culture, and if you were captivated by the struggles of idols in the animated film, you’ll be surprised by how honestly it depicts the darker side of the entertainment world.
Despite not being primarily focused on music, Oshi No Ko still features some really good songs, especially when showcasing the B-Komachi idol group. If you enjoyed KPop Demon Hunters, you’ll likely enjoy this series too.
4) Zombieland Saga

Unlike other anime on this list, Zombieland Saga includes supernatural elements. Instead of focusing on magical warriors like KPop Demon Hunters, it stands out with a group of zombie idols. Called Franchouchou, these undead girls work to become famous performers on the world stage while dealing with the challenges of being zombies.
Despite appearing like a lighthearted comedy, the anime Zombieland Saga truly shines through its music. It expertly blends humor with surprisingly thoughtful themes of self-discovery and the challenges of being an idol, making it a captivating watch – especially for fans of shows like KPop Demon Hunters.
3) Uta no Prince-sama

If you enjoyed the characters and dynamics in KPop Demon Hunters, especially the ‘Saja boys’, you’ll likely love Uta no Prince-sama. The anime follows Haruka Nanami, a girl who wants to write songs for idols, as she attends a special music school and collaborates with six attractive boys who are also striving to become idols.
Music is central to the anime, and dramatic, romantic moments make it especially enjoyable. Since it first aired in 2011, Uta no Prince-sama has become a full-fledged franchise, growing with several sequels and concert movies.
2) Bocchi the Rock!

Bocchi the Rock! is more than just an anime about music; it delves into themes of introversion and personal struggles, something fans of KPop Demon Hunters will likely appreciate. The main character, Bocchi, perfectly embodies this, as her name actually means ‘lonely.’ The story focuses on her quiet life and her determination to overcome her shyness, which inspires her to learn to play the guitar and try to make friends.
Bocchi’s incredible guitar playing shows what dedication to a single skill can achieve. Bocchi the Rock! is a compelling anime about an all-girl band growing up, and its subtle details make it a standout musical series that fans are sure to love.
1) Carole & Tuesday

Though Carole & Tuesday doesn’t feature the supernatural themes of KPop Demon Hunters, its music is just as good, if not better. The story takes place on a future Mars where AI creates most of the music. It follows two girls who team up as a singer-songwriter duo and start fighting against the powerful forces controlling their world.
Unlike the demon-fighting action of HUNTR/X, Carole & Tuesday tackles the world of political maneuvering through the power of music. This makes it worth watching on its own, but you’ll likely also find its songs stuck in your head – many are sung in English, similar to the tracks in KPop Demon Hunters. If you enjoyed the music of KPop Demon Hunters, that’s a great reason to check out Carole & Tuesday.
