5 New AnimeJapan 2026 Announcements to Be Excited For (Ranked By Hype Level)

AnimeJapan 2026 just wrapped up in Japan, and it was packed with exciting news and updates for anime fans! Beyond the announcements about the Spring 2026 anime season, the event showcased a lot of major projects currently in development, making it a fantastic showcase of what’s coming soon from Japan.

AnimeJapan 2026 brought a lot of exciting news for anime fans! While there were updates for many different series, here are a few of the biggest highlights. This is just a taste of everything that was revealed, but it should give you a good idea of what’s coming soon.

5). JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run Confirms 2nd Stage Release

The release of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run on Netflix is going to be unusual. After one 45-minute episode came out in March, it was announced that fans will have to wait a significant amount of time for the next batch of episodes. A preview for the “2nd Stage” confirmed this, indicating it will be released later in the year.

This season won’t be released weekly, and it won’t be a group of episodes all at once like past seasons. The release schedule is completely different this time, and honestly, it’s probably the most disappointing news we’ve heard lately.

4). Gintama Creator Returns With New Anime, Dandelion

Hideaki Sorachi, the creator of Gintama, is launching a new manga in Shonen Jump and also returning to anime this April. Dandelion, premiering on Netflix April 16th, is an animated adaptation of a one-shot story Sorachi created before Gintama. This seven-episode miniseries will not only adapt the original story, but also include new content to expand upon it.

With Gintama celebrating 20 years of its anime and manga, fans can expect a nostalgic look back at the creator’s incredible career. And based on what we’ve seen, it’s sure to be a very funny ride!

3). Sentenced to Be a Hero Season 2 Announced

Several anime series have announced upcoming seasons, but the biggest news is definitely the confirmation of Season 2 for Sentenced to Be a Hero. Based on the original novel by Rocket Shokai and Mephisto, the series was a huge success this year, and its first season ended with a cliffhanger that hints at exciting new developments for the main characters.

As the anime expands its world and unravels more mysteries, the upcoming season promises to be just as captivating as the first. While there’s no official release date yet, the news of another season is still a welcome announcement.

2). One Piece’s Nami Spinoff Reveals First Trailer

I was so hyped at AnimeJapan 2026 for One Piece! They finally showed us a sneak peek at the next season, which is kicking off the long-awaited Elbaph arc. But the real excitement for me was getting our first look at the new One Piece: Heroines anime special! It’s based on a novel series that tells side stories focusing on the amazing female characters from Eiichiro Oda’s manga, and this special is all about Nami’s adventure. I can’t wait!

Premiering in Japan on July 5th, One Piece: Heroines will retell the story of “Episode: Nami” with a fresh, new art style. Toei Animation is using a different team for this special, so fans can expect a unique spin on the popular One Piece series.

1). Magic Knight Rayearth Reboot Confirms October 2026 Release

Among all the recent news, the biggest excitement for many fans is the return of Magic Knight Rayearth. Originally released 33 years ago, this anime is a landmark title in the isekai genre – stories about people transported to another world. It uniquely blends elements of magical girl shows with the spectacle of giant robots. A new version is coming this October, giving a new generation a chance to discover why this series remains so beloved after all these years.
