5 New Side Missions in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A Mega Dimension DLC You Shouldn’t Skip

I especially enjoyed the side quests in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. They make the world, particularly Lumiose City, feel vibrant and offer some genuinely touching stories. I was thrilled to see that the Mega Dimension expansion adds over 80 new side quests, building on what was already a strong feature. As someone who loves these optional tasks, I made it a priority to complete them all while exploring Hyperspace Lumiose. However, like the original side quests, the quality varies – some are much more engaging than others.

The new side quests in the Pokemon Legends: Z-A DLC range from quick fights to longer, story-driven adventures. You’ll explore locations like the unique Hyperspace Lumiose, and completing these quests can even help you find and catch new Mythical Pokemon. With so much to do, including the Hyperspace Surveys, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. That’s why I’ve put together a list of the best side Mega Dimension missions – ones you definitely shouldn’t miss, even if you don’t aim to complete every single one.

5) Frigibax’s Friend Finding (Side Mission 161)

Honestly, I really enjoy those little side quests where you get to see what everyday life is like for Pokémon and their trainers. Legends: Z-A is all about battling, which is great, but it’s refreshing to stumble across missions that are about something else. I recently did one where this trainer was super shy, and her Frigibax was even more so – they just wanted to make some friends! It didn’t take long to finish, but it was full of really cute moments with Frigibax meeting new Pokémon. And the trainer actually got a nice surprise at the end, which was awesome.

This Side Mission begins in Wild Area 10, located in the Bleu Sector. When you enter facing South Boulevard, you’ll see a trainer with a Frigibax. Talk to this trainer to start the mission: you’ll need to find three other trainers in Wild Area 10 and befriend their Pokémon to help Frigibax.

4) The Dauntless Raichu Duo (Side Mission 139)

If you want to unlock the Mega Evolutions for Raichu X and Raichu Y, you’ll need to complete this side quest. It’s how you get the Mega Stones required to evolve Raichu into its new Mega Forms. However, you’ll first need to finish two other side quests in Legends: Z-A before this one becomes available.

To begin Side Mission 139 and get your Raichu Mega Stones, first finish Side Mission 2: A Use for an Evolution Stone and Side Mission 103: Alola, Raichu. After that, a new portal for a Side Mission will appear in the Juane District mall, close to the Juane Pokemon Center.

Go inside to challenge two Mega Raichu. If you win, you’ll receive both Raichunite X and Raichunite Y. Be prepared for a tough battle – it’s two Raichu against one of your Pokémon, and each Raichu is level 115. It’s best to wait until you’ve unlocked some stronger donuts to boost your Pokémon’s power before taking them on.

3) The Stealthy Shadow (Side Mission 192)

If you’re trying to complete your PokeDex or you’re a fan of the Mythical Pokemon Marshadow, don’t miss this optional quest! It’s available as soon as you purchase the Mega Dimension DLC, but you’ll need to create a very specific situation before you can find Marshadow.

You can start this quest after finishing the last main mission of Mega Dimension, Hyperspace Mission 12. After that, a new character will appear near the Rogue Pokemon Center in Rogue Sector 1. They’ll give you a riddle that sends you to the nearby court at dusk on a clear day. There, you’ll find a shadow – interact with it, and it will turn into Marshadow! If you win the battle, you can catch Marshadow in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

2) Volcanion Unleashed (Side Mission 194)

This side quest officially introduces Volcanion to Pokemon Legends: Z-A. If you’re a fan of this Pokemon, you won’t want to miss it! While it doesn’t give Volcanion a new Mega Evolution, you can still add it to your collection in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.

Just like the Marshadow quest, you need to finish the main story of the Mega Dimension DLC before you can start this one. After that, talk to Mabel at the Pokemon Research Lab. She’ll give you a new quest that leads to a battle with Volcanion. If you defeat and catch Volcanion, you’ll complete the quest and get closer to filling out your Pokedex!

1) A Message from Across Dimensions (Side Mission 140)

If you enjoy side quests with a touching story, don’t miss this one! You’ll probably find it early on, and it continues a storyline from the original game. I won’t give away the details, but it’s a heartwarming tale with plenty of action-packed battles.

To start Side Mission 140, you first need to progress through the downloadable content until you unlock the Hyperspace Lumiose Survey No. 2 mission (which is Hyperspace Mission 3). After that, look for a Side Mission Hyperspace Portal in Wild Zone 4 of the Rogue District. Go through the portal and you’ll find Cherir, an NPC sitting on a bench. Talk to him to begin the side quest – be warned, it’s a pretty emotional story!
