Nickelodeon is known for its high-quality, kid-focused shows, and has been a major force in creating original animated and live-action series. Many people who were children in the 1990s remember the channel fondly, particularly its game shows, news program for kids, and beloved original cartoons.
Nickelodeon helped launch the career of Melissa Joan Hart with the show Clarissa Explains It All, and many other of their past programs are still fondly remembered. Because of this, fans often express a desire for Nickelodeon to bring back some of these classic shows.
5) Finders Keepers

Finders Keepers was a fun, live game where two teams of kids raced against each other. They had to solve puzzles and find hidden objects inside a house to win.
During each round, one team saw a picture of a hidden object and received a clue to its location, racing against the clock to find it. If they couldn’t, the other team got a chance. The winning team then participated in a bonus round – a scavenger hunt throughout the house to find as many items as possible.
As a total movie and TV buff, I always loved shows that were simple but genuinely exciting, and Finders Keepers definitely fit the bill – kids actually won money! What’s amazing is that even with all the tech we have now, Nickelodeon could bring it back pretty easily. The gameplay was so straightforward. I think today’s kids would be hooked, and it would give them something real to watch instead of just playing those hidden object games on their phones. It was just pure, fun adventure!
4) Aah! Real Monsters

Nickelodeon’s Aaah! Real Monsters was a truly inventive cartoon from the network’s early days. The show followed three monsters who went to a special boarding school to learn how to frighten people, but they frequently found themselves in trouble for being nice to humans. The biggest fear for these monsters was being filmed – if adults discovered they were real, they’d lose their ability to scare anyone!
With movies like Monsters, Inc. still being popular, now is a great time to bring back Aaah!!! Real Monsters. Nickelodeon could update the show with a fresh look by using claymation and modern effects instead of traditional animation, creating something really special.
3) The Secret World of Alex Mack

I remember when The Secret World of Alex Mack first came on Nickelodeon – it was totally different from anything else they’d done before! It was the first superhero show on the network, and I was immediately hooked. The story followed Alex, a normal middle schooler who suddenly got superpowers. Seriously, she could move things with her mind, turn into a puddle, and even shoot lightning from her fingertips after an accident with some chemicals. It was so cool!
Throughout the show, Alex tried to hide her abilities so she could fit in at school. At the same time, she and her sister worked to uncover the source of the pollution that gave her those powers and figure out how the accident happened.
Young viewers love stories about superheroes and fantasy, particularly those featuring teenage girls. A modern remake of The Secret World of Alex Mack, updated with today’s visual effects, would likely be very popular. The story of a teen facing off against a powerful, unethical company would also resonate with audiences, especially if it explored current issues like artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge, but potentially problematic, technologies.
2) Clarissa Explains It All

Clarissa Explains It All was a groundbreaking sitcom from Nickelodeon. The show starred a lively 12-year-old named Clarissa who talked directly to the audience about the everyday challenges of family and school – things many kids could understand. It became popular because Clarissa felt like a relatable friend to a lot of girls growing up in the 1990s, and it helped launch Melissa Joan Hart’s career before she became famous for Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
As a huge fan of 90s TV, I always hoped for a ‘Clarissa Explains It All’ reboot, and I heard Melissa Joan Hart was even on board with the idea back in 2018 – sadly, it never happened. But honestly, we need a new version! While teenage life is different now – things like cyberbullying are a huge issue – the core stuff is still the same: making friends, first crushes, and dealing with pressure from school and family. I think today’s teens would really connect with a character like Clarissa, someone who could offer a little guidance and a lot of laughs as they figure things out.
1) Legends of the Hidden Temple

Legends of the Hidden Temple was a really creative game show on Nickelodeon. Teams of one boy and one girl competed by tackling both physical challenges and answering trivia questions. The goal was to enter a hidden temple and find a valuable historical artifact.
The game show was fun and informative, featuring three main rounds plus a bonus round reminiscent of classic video games. Players learned about historical objects while competing to enter a temple and retrieve a valuable artifact, with the whole show inspired by the adventure seen in the Indiana Jones films.
The show had a brief comeback in 2019 with adult contestants, but it really needs a fresh start. A successful reboot would involve collaborating with people from different Indigenous tribes to design the games and props. This would not only make for a fun show, but also teach kids about diverse Indigenous cultures and traditions.
